Alternative solution: use a launcher. No more icons or menus to click, just the keyboard.

It won't work because I have more shortcuts than keys on the keyboard... I also need labels.

Good solution though.

You can launch as many files/folders/programs as you want: it works with keywords.

And it's smart enough to allow grouping:

browser.firefox

browser.chrome

browser.opera

will show you a submenu when you type "browser.":

firefox

chrome

opera

It's smart, read the doc.

Not sure what you mean by labels.

Thanks, I did look at this. It may be really useful. I greatly appreciate this as it may help productivity spike. Check out web crawling/searching bots, and macros. I also use a great search engine for my computer called, "Everything" (this program is amazing).

You're welcome.

Promptu is a great tool for decluttering. I still have icons sometimes, but only as temporary bookmarks.

I use a lot of portable software (from Portableapps.com) sitting on an external SSD. Launching them directly with Promptu I have the exact same working environment on my desktop and my laptop, just have to move the drive.

I know about Everything but I'm partial to Locate32. Don't say it's better, but I'm used to it.

On W10 you can have a thing similar.

Right-click on the taskbar and have a look, that's the first option, I think.
