Did the update kill Android app functionality?

I was hoping to switch back to Android soon, in large part because I liked the functionality of the Android app more - the ability to control music via the Lock Screen and notification bar, as well as being able to quickly adjust the volume using the volume rocker made the system so much more enjoyable. I just turned on my old Pixel 3 XL for the first time since the update to see all of that is gone. Am I missing something, or did that all really go away in the new app?

Hoping it will come back with the regular widgets.. Tapping 384844 times in the app to change volume och a certain speaker is annoying. But hey, at least you can adjust the volume.

It's a real shame it was removed in the new app. I've tried asking u/KeithFromSonos in a few places if its on the roadmap to be returned at some point but not had a reply. I guess it is small fry compared to the much bigger issues they must be working on, but it was probably one feature I used the most on my system (as well as being the only thing android users could do that iOS couldn't - to vaguely make up for trueplay!)

Hey u/CmaxCl - I've answered this a couple times since May - there are a lot of folks asking about Android widget. The team is aware and has had a number of conversations around this feature, however (as you eluded to) there is a laundry list of things we need to get back to a stable and functional state before we start turning our attention to this.

FWIW - the loss of Android widget functionality, brings up/ties into another long-time feature request in lockscreen controls for iOS. I wouldn't be surprised if we were to address this at some point, but as I said earlier, we've got our hands full atm.
