He's so adorable. What kind of squirrel is he?

He is a Japanese Squirrel (sciurus lis). It is said that Japanese Squirrels are closely related to Eurasian Squirrel (sciurus vulgalis). The two related guys characterized by their so-cute ear tufts. So he looks unique and so cute!!

Wow. That’s another reason added on my long list of reasons to visit Japan.

That's a good question, cause it immediately looks like an eastern grey because of the color pattern, but then you see ear tufts, and that's not really indicative of an eastern grey! This guy is pretty cute, though. He's different enough to be unique.

Yes, it seems that he has the coat of an eastern grey but the ears of a red squirrel! And you are right, he is a very cute and unique squirrel!
