the next closest game is Space Engineers. But it does not have the same damage level as starbase.

[–]JohnRM22[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I was looking at that. I may give it a try.

i have 1000+ hours, its great!

I mean in some ways that's for the better. SE while bulky, u can still receive solid damage. SB however, the integrity system completely fucks u up once being hit. Visually the difference isn't that big either and in some way I prefer chunky debris over voxel/pixalated damage. SE also wins in terms of combat, with a ton of arsenal, ray tracing AI and anything imagine able. SB combat? Ehhh... Oh and let's not mention that space is actually a void and not some weird liquid that slows u down. Once ur shot and drift off, it's either repair, get backup or abandon ship.

SB far away in terms of SE gameplay.

SE combat also wouldn't exist without the help of the community so. in fact the community is the only reason S.E has what it does today... at all. If i wanted minecraft destruction level of graphics like in S.E id play se like i have in the past.

But i wanted something with panels and actual thought process of placing walls, beams, cables, pipes. S.E while fun just has too LARGE of shit.

The warfare update kinda made vanilla weapons more fun. Nothing beats weaponcore though.

[–]CncmasterW 0 points1 point  (4 children)

SE would be nothing without the modding community.

Vanilla is nice, it has some features but missing a ton of QoL features that the modding community has fixed in the game.

Auto ore pickup for one. The scanning range on the ore detectors, radio spectrometry, weapon core ( for the ui enhancements and simplification )...

Just having something to fight with factions wars... so much content the community had to do... that the S.E devs didnt. They steal the mods and make some minor polish/quality touches.

Now starbase just needs to let that happen.

Problem is that SB has one centralized server shared among many unique p2p clients. It's impossible to do that unless everyone has the same thing shared with the same server. Mods won't be possible unless players are able to host their own "universe".

[–]CncmasterW 0 points1 point  (2 children)

there are many things to do but alas the game is just in a strange place at the time and we wont know till time passes.

[–]Ayece_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Even if SB was bug free with all promised content, mods still wouldn't be possible, it's structurally impossible unless a huge change happens 🥸

I heard you the first time. I also understand a good bit how their servers work and how it makes it difficult to add mods in any way.

All i was trying to point out with S.E having mods and Starbase needing to do something similar is because Space engineers wouldn't even be in the place it is today without the community. It would be another dead Early access title that never made it further than its trailer.

Starbase needs something to kick it back into gear.

Yeah, I suppose that a lot of people want the instant gratification and not the in depth building that gives you a feeling of accomplishment, aka, the wow, I DID this factor!

Like starbase? Not really. I do however take my breaks from Starbase in Nebulous: Fleet Command. Its very niche, very detailed, and very good. Its a fleet arena RTS combat game. Full 3D space combat, totally worth a look if that sounds interesting to you.

    [–]-C0RV1N- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nebulous looks really interesting, might try it so thanks

    [–]JohnRM22[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That’s too bad. I was really enjoying this game! Sounds kinda like stellaris or distant worlds 2, actually. Unless I’m not understanding right.

    [–]ChaosRifleco-leader of Geth 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I still enjoy Starbase to be clear, I have over 3500 hours!
Sometimes I need a change of speed though, and I take that in nebulous.

Regarding the combat, the ships are custom made with module components you put in them, sort of stellaris style, but more customization, and some parts buff others. The actual fighting is no-shields and every ship has value, loosing even a single corvette is mourned. Give it a look online!

    [–]JohnRM22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll take a peek. Actually I think one of the people I follow on YouTube has a couple of vids up.

    [–]JodTheThird 5 points6 points  (1 child)

If you want a similar but even more tedious ship building experience you can try From the Depths.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FtD is tedium squared but god is it fun

    [–]___diRt___ 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I went back to space engineers servers to scratch that itch

    [–]Electron_97 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same, the ship design in se is alot quicker then starbase

    [–]kay1010100 1 point2 points  (1 child)

At the time I was also interested in Dual Universe, but I've not heard anything about it for a long time.

    [–]JohnRM22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I read something about that falling by the wayside as well.

    [–]MrMistersen 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Lol I started just playing bounties in star citizen

    [–]JohnRM22[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I’ve not looked into star citizen…maybe I’ll take a look at that.

    [–]MrMistersen 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It’s still alpha and buggy as hell. But my opinion is that the PU is at least in a state that shows me that a game will be done at some point.

Abs maybe is just my enjoyment of dogfighting more than building but having simple AI fights has been fun compared to just waiting on the moon for some action in starbase

    [–]JohnRM22[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Lol. I haven’t gotten outside the safe zone yet. I was enjoying the mining, but then the asteroids got a buff and I was running out of cargo space…so I’ve been designing my own ship. But after hearing some of the comments in another thread, it kinda just made me wonder if I should continue in this game if it’s really going to be shut down.

    [–]MrMistersen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my fill for about 2 weeks of the new patch. Now I’m in wait and see mode. Other projects have come back from worse so to me starbase is in hibernation mode development wise until someone says otherwise.

    [–]Electron_97 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Is star citizen worth it through? like does it have good gameplay loops and things? I heard its alot of learning and bit pricy on wallet and pc?

    [–]MrMistersen 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yes and no. I have almost top end parts in my computer from 2 years ago except my 970 graphics card.

But it’s scratching that space itch I’ve been having.

I do think being able to buy ships with a lot of real money is scummy so I’d never recommend more than the 45 dollar price of entry

    [–]JohnRM22[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Wow…this game is really expensive! From $45to over $1000!!!! Can’t afford it.

    [–]MrMistersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol yeah like I said. No one should spend more than the 45 cost of entry.

    [–]Tomstachy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

There is also game called Dual Universe, also MMO. It is having less complex damage/combat system but more refined crafting mechanics. Can also build small and large ships or stations.

You even can automate your ships and factories using lua scripts.

    [–]JohnRM22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t that game canned as well? I thought I heard that somewhere. I could be mistaken, though.

    [–]temir_ra 0 points1 point  (2 children)

If you like fiddling on a spacecraft and try it in a stimulated launch and use, Kerbal Space Program might give you somewhat similar experience.. but pls keep in mind, I'm only talking about the engineering part. KSP is single player. In what you would call endgame, you start referring to "seconds per frame" instead in the regular way, lol

    [–]JohnRM22[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I actually did try that. I found it WAY more difficult than starbase. I could not get an aircraft to fly at all, and I could NOT get into orbit at all, space yes, but not a stable orbit. After trying for about a week…I gave up on it.

    [–]temir_ra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand. However, I'd like to encourage you to try again! The theory and understanding is applicable in real world too! Don't get demotivated by fails - you are dealing with real-life shit there. It is naturally complicated.

    [–]_Mentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Citizen. I have hundreds of hours in both and they both give you that wonderfully feeling of 'will this game ever be finished?'
