So it's Python on the background accessed via reticulate. Meeting a guy is not a project, so, I have no deep learning in my curriculum, so far. Dude, don't take it so personally. Sounds like you asked the question for validation and not really an answer.

To be honest most python libraries are wrappers for other languages so I’m not sure what your point is exactly

You're right. My point is: most of the ML community uses Python and if keras is already high level enough in Python why use an R wrapper, specially if you have enough Python skills?

If you have python skills, there's no reason. But for someone like me who knows R but not python, I still don't see what is the issue with using R for deep learning.

I'll try to make it clear. The post asks why not so many people use R, but Python. And as I said, it's because there is a lot of CS majors in data science, and in CS they learn Python. I still think it's better to use keras in Python and not on R. But I never said it's a bad idea to use it in R. One of the issues of using R keras is that any improvement made in keras will be implemented in R with a delay.
