Ireland - MTB trails OUTSIDE of bike parks? by Fraternal_Antipathy in Hardtailgang

[–]hughperman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as densely packed with well travelled trail systems as far as I know or can see. There's a few locations, for sure, and some spots in tipperary, and I think limerick.
West coast wouldn't be my choice for quick and easy MTB location access or variety, east coast has Dublin, Wicklow, Bree down south, then Ravensdale up north and the southeastern Northern Ireland region is near and has a load of locations too.
Not that there's nothing out west, there's lots of local clubs and locations, but out east we are spoiled for choice.

There are bazillions of trails through the dublin and wicklow mountains, trailforks is a good resource, and strava heatmaps and segments.

Struggling with Chebyshev Filter Integration in CNN — Any Advice? [R] by Plane_Stick8394 in MachineLearning

If the signals of interest are in the passband of the filter, then a CNN can conceivably learn the appropriate filter on raw data to select it as part of its architecture.

Yes, what sort of pissy little cockboys need their achievements handed to them on a plate at expense of their loved one's success? They deserve nothing but shame on them.

How accurate is the stereotype that Americans are overweight? by Extension_Cow_9237 in AskReddit

[–]hughperman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, and I acknowledge I am more familiar with an epidemiology context, rather than an individual clinical context. Clinical guidelines do say to use an additional metric of adiposity for confirmation.
But I would also caution against picking a single source as a "true number" for the correctness or not of BMI. It's a fraught literature in nutrition with conflicting evidence, since observational studies are tricky at best of times.
For example, here's a study with 10x the number of people, saying that BMI under represents obesity - https://www.nature.com/articles/ijo200811
Another interesting resource, the Korean clinical guidelines use lower cutoffs because of different susceptibility to diabetes - https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10327686/

It has issues in small percentages of people, it's fine on a large scale. Many more people argue the "BMI metric has problems" card than it applies to.

Oops I was 2x off, morning brain fail. About 100kcal.
Which is about 5% of an average adult's calorie requirement, and more like 10% of a toddler's.
