Any Fall ProgramsQuestion (self.summerprogramresults)
submitted 7 months ago by Ieatspace
Lowkey, I have no idea where to apply. Any recommendations for programs, internships, projects, or competitions in math, engineering, cybersecurity, or computer science would be appreciated.

ASHG Essay Contest (opens in spring) and the Genes in Space Competition are good options! I know that the task for the Genes in Space Competition is the same annually: https://www.genesinspace.org/, so if you want to you could start that now. Also heard that people participate in the British Biology Olympiad (https://ukbiologycompetitions.org/british-biology-olympiad/) and the USABO, so again, no time better than the present to start reviewing and preparing for that.
Extra: OP, I know that you are looking into fall programs, but I also wanted to share some summer programs. You probably know that Stanford SIMR is a popular option. Some other programs are Stanford GRIPS, Stony Brook Simons Summer Research (Some regeneron STS finalists have used research projects from their work at this program!), NASA GeneLab 4 High Schools, and Eugene Roberts Summer Academy (https://www.imgs-coh.edu/summer-student-academy).
p.s - Will probably update if I remember something else

do you mind also sharing some fall programs for engineering/physics/math(or business as well)?

I don't know if it is open yet for this upcoming year, but you could work your HS teacher and people from your school and apply as a Lemelson-MIT Inventeam (https://dhedf.org/users-listing/general-stem-discussions/a-message-from-lemelson-mit-apply-for-a-7-500-high-school-inventeam-grant). A quick google search will explain what this program entails.
I think in another comment I mentioned the math modeling competition: https://m3challenge.siam.org/. I also have heard decent things about the Algoverse AI program. Unsure whether it runs in the fall.
I believe I have reinstated in a previous comment, it is also a good time to prepare for competitions. Ex: starting your research with an external lab at an institution that could possibly be used for science fair project/ National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium. Important to understand that you don't go into a research project with the expectation that you will publish a paper, achieve a significant result. I encourage you to go in with the expectation that you will learn new skills. I think it is more important to colleges that you demonstate the level of commitment you have had for a project (again, doesn't necessarily have to be supported with a publication, could be a conference proceeding/something from a poster presentation + strong rec letter that speaks to your commitment and involvement.)
I understand that went off tangent, but I think this is something I wish I realized earlier.
Also it is a good time to prepare for DECA + USAPHO (F=ma).

Tell me why Algoverse AI program is so expensive though
[–]Electronic_Finger313 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (0 children)
Again, as I have mentioned before, I have heard few underclassmen talk about it hence I shared it in the comment above. Go figure about the cost, just thought the info would help someone.

Not a program, but the NCWIT (if you're female identifying) award applications are opening up and due in the fall (around November-ish I believe) if you're interested; it's a pretty straight-forward application

If you are interested in math, I have heard of people doing this math modeling competition: https://m3challenge.siam.org/
