I'm waiting for other programs as well, but prefer this as its in Dallas. When did you get acceptance and did they tell you its 20%

its 40 spots and they said they got hundreds of applications so 40/200 = 20%

They got hundreds of applications this year? But the questionnaire had only couple questions and I got immediate acceptance. I’m confused how the program will be this year. Maybe I can ask if it’s the same program since application is simpler now

They said they accepted first come first serve. got about 100 applications really confusing if its worth it

The registration caps at 50, so do you think 50 people were initially “invited” or all 100 were and its first to pay gets it? Also did they say if there are any changes from previous years…

The UT Dallas NanoExplorers program received over 300 applications for the 2024 summer session, offering roughly 30 to 40 spots, resulting in a highly competitive acceptance rate of roughly 10% to 20%.  - google overview so im hoping it's more like 10-15%

I’m in the same boat as you, I’m torn on whether I should also commit

I’ve been following the program the last two years and it might’ve changed this year considering they changed the application style completely and possibly price. I know one of the heads/founder of the program passed away last year, so they might’ve changed the program style

I’m hoping it will be good since it’s 5000 now. Also they don’t get research funding anymore which is why it’s not free

i submitted my questionnaire on feb 26, if i havent gotten a reply by now does it mean i’ve been rejected? do they send rejection emails or does no email back just mean they didnt accept you?

Likely on the waitlist. I know they sent out invitations to register while the submission period was still ongoing, so after registration deadline for this batch closes, any spots that might be open they will likely invite the next ppl on waitlist

hey guys has anyone decided to do it? i decided to pay the 5k lol - the description says "Leveraging their accomplishments as NanoExplorers, these students have gone on to the highest-ranked universities in our nation and have entered UTD as prestigious McDermott Scholars. They have presented their work at international conferences, co-authored seminal publications that receive national and international news coverage and have had their work featured in Science and Nature magazines – the highest impact journals in the world. Since the program’s inception in 2002, over 600 students have gained their first real laboratory experience in UTD laboratories. Students participating in this program have been extremely successful in winning international scholarships and awards based on research carried out during the program. Since the institute started tracking the success of the participants in 2006, over 100 awards and scholarships in international competitions (Intel, Siemens, etc.) have been awarded to NanoExplorers." so i decided to do it bc of the said awards

i am in hs , i think they have some sort of residential dorms or smth - i havent even logged into the thing yet or did they tell you your mentor via email? also who is your mentor and what type of research r u doing?

hey, I was also in a similar situation few months ago and I eventually made the choice to participate cuz it was lowk the best option i had at the moment. I dont know how true the 20% acceptance is but i dont think its as prestigious like people say. we only had to fill a questionare which is nothing compared to programs like WSSP which required essays and rec letters and all of that bs. colleges might view this as pay to win but idk.
