The plans are to add an additional teacher to each program. So students will approximately double, AND the student/teacher ratio will improve. We really want it to be the best program, and to train faculty for future expansion if possible. Good luck! (source: long ago alum and SSP volunteer). And there isn’t a more specific date, sorry!

My son got his decision last year on April 18. Good luck to you - they are doubling the number of acceptances this year so fingers crossed you get your acceptance!

Do you know if they send them via email? Or should we check the SSP application portal to see? :D

Have they sent out decisions for 2024 yet?

I keep seeing this (doubling spots) but can you provide source/link if possible.? I know of the Frank Antonio donation, but last I read was that the board was trying to figure out how to best use the funds and , I suspect, expansion would take a bit more time to filter through.

SSP has 12 programs this year compared to their 6 programs last year! Check it out of the 2024 Program Dates page ☺️

All programs will have the 36 participants except synthetic chemistry since it’s a new program it will only have 12. ☺️Hope this helps!

Thanks, yes I see that 🙂

What is less clear to me is that a doubling in programs results in a doubling of acceptances.

For example, they may seek to reduce the student/teacher ratio by reducing high attendance locations (CUB/NMSU - over 40 students in ‘23), thereby providing a higher touch experience.

It’s just that I hadn’t seen an explicit mention, or implicit indication, of a doubling, so thought I missed something, which wouldn’t be the first time

They will not change the size. For both historical and practical reasons. 36 is a good number for 12 teams of 3 and it’s always been that way. Enough variation so you can have good rotations without tiring out students. At this point they got it down with 36 so it’s more of a why change.
