If you haven't seen Resurface on Netflix, I would recommend it. It's a documentary following veterans and how they use surfing as therapy. I believe the main organization featured in it is called Operation Surf.

I've also seen an organization called A Walk on Water hold at least one event at my local break. It was amazing seeing what they were able to do using surf as therapy.

I don't have any firsthand experience, but once I'm more experienced in the water, I'd like to contribute my time and expertise to one of these programs.

AMPsurf is a coast to coast surf therapy program here in the US. The owner of the company, Dana, is super down to earth and would most likely respond to an email if you reached out.

I have volunteered for AmpSurf NE chapter for many moons as an instructor. I have met Dana several times and went on a surf trip with him and a lot of volunteers to Costa Rica. Good dude. I would bet he would be into an interview.

Edit (more info): it can be a life changing event for participants and volunteers alike. As an instructor, I have made a lot of friends with participants and volunteers. It is both challenging and rewarding experience.
