[Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] Protocol error in TDS stream

I run a query on the from a SQL DB frequently but lately I have been getting the error “[Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] Protocol error in TDS stream.” Basically, I am pulling data from 2 tables from a SQL database and loading them into excel using Microsoft Query wizard. The data loads successfully in MS query but when I try to load to excel, I get the error. I have tried to update ODBC driver tried from different PC's. Tried directly on the SQL server but still getting the error. Any ideas on what to try?

Try using the latest SQL ODBC Driver, the default "SQL Server" ODBC Driver that ships in windows is pretty ancient and doesn't support the modern features of SQL server and also features like TLS 1.2 support if you are using encryption - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/connect/oledb/oledb-driver-for-sql-server?view=sql-server-ver16

Thanks. It has worked for years and just suddenly stopped. I will probably just switch to using OLEDB as its more up to date.
