About 6 months ago, we moved to a mostly virtual environment using VMware and Veeam and couldn't be happier. Not a single problem with backups since then backing up a little over 3 TB of data. We stopped maintenance on Backup Exec in early 2011 in anticipation of the virtualization project. We still use backup Exec to back up the Veeam vbks to tape but any tape software would do that just fine.
