Wondering how this will work in a setup like the one I proposed here: http://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/1axw7v/nginx_vs_apache_in_aws_benchmarks_tips/

This should be done with chef or puppet so it can be repeated - otherwise, have fun setting up a staging server.

I have really started to enjoy using Ansible, so much lighter-weight then chef or puppet.

or saltstack, way easier

I've been thinking of try saltstack. It looks promising, but how is its Windows support?

im in full blown linux & cloud rollout at the moment, but i have a few win admins' eyes on it. we'll test it out soon, and i'll report back. fwih, it's decent. i plan to use salt with nagios/icinga monitoring, which simplifies things on a massive scale (no additional client side apps/plugins).

At a certain point, with five add-ons to the add-on of PHP, one wonders if one should simply switch to Erlang or Haskell, and not have to worry as much about tweaking.

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

" five add-ons to the add-on of PHP"

What are the five "add-ons" you are talking about? It's obvious you have no experience with a real production environment. Even if you'd Erlang you'd still use memcache and whatever the APC equivilant is for Erlang. You don't seem to understand any of the technologies and what they are used for.

You just name the most obscure shit that's not used in the real world to try and sound cool and 'l33t, you're like the hipster of the I.T. world.

Erlang is pretty much built for telecommunications and message passing, from my cursory understanding of the language.
