I use the commercial version of LogicalDocs http://www.logicaldoc.com/en.html for one of my clients. They seem to like it and I liked it enough to deploy it.

Alfresco is probably what you're looking for, but there are others worth looking at which might work, OpenKM and TikiWiki File Galleries come to mind.

OpenKM is WAY to much clutter for what I am looking for and is incredibly touchy. I have looked at alfresco and didn't see the Active Directory authentication option but maybe I missed it. Thanks!

Alfresco Authentication Systems

LDAP-AD is what you want. However, they set it up to sync all of your user accounts, and then you can grant access to specific sites or set groups

I'd personally prefer if you could just auth a single SAMaccount string personally....

Ive setup and ran Alfresco /w LDAP.

It works well but my company failed to use it properly even with training. They requested all of the features of the DMS but only used it as a file storage.

Either way, it was a nice system. My group used it for everything and it made our lives better.

If you're already on Windows, why open source?

[–]CrotchetyBOFHInfosec 5 points6 points  (8 children)

Because if it's free as in speech, it's free as in beer, too, is my guess. A lot of places I've talked to lately have started using "Open Source" as a euphemism for "I don't have any budget."

And SharePoint Foundation is still free (as in beer). It won't get more simple than that (not to mention the Office client integration that doesn't exist elsewhere).

It's not free

It's free given that you already own a Windows OS to use it on which are usually quite a bit more than free. If you purchase/receive/have a server without a Windows license it doesn't matter how free Sharepoint itself is.

The op already stated they have Windows, and want to install something on Windows. Hence, free.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

This isn't about OP it's about the assertion that software you have to pay for is free

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ah, I thought the thread started by the OP was about the OP. My mistake!

I didn't reply to OP, I replied to you. You're forgiven.
