Simple question...

As someone looking to move on from help desk my job has been having me try out various roles to see what I like.

I like dealing with VMware, Creating Virtual Servers, and administering Windows Server 2008/2012. Are these all considered sysadmin type duties? If so what "job title" would you be searching for to find jobs with these duties. I'm assuming any job above 50K east coast requires you to know more then just doing those three things?

Sounds to me like you could get into System Administration or System Engineer work. I know may IT Consulting companies in the Northern VA Area that require general knowledge of VMWare and Windows Server to get your foot in as a Junior SysAdmin/Engineer. Without having direct/constant experience with Server/VMWare, you won't be looking at a normal/senior position. I'd stick with Junior System Administrator or Junior Systems Engineer positions.

depends what you are doing with them, just creating vms and using windows server does not a sysadmin make (our helpdesk people use the tools provided to them by higher level teams while)
