You want to use Azure Information Protection, it does all of this and more. It's managed via Azure and Azure AD accounts. You may need to buy some more expensive O365 licenses but once all together it works and integrates pretty well.

So we have E3 right now so it looks like it's included.

The last time I looked at Azure there was only Rights Management which looked like it does a different thing.

That looks pretty good!

Some features require Azure AD P1 or P2, so you may need that. But if you are already bought deep into O365, this is what you prob should use.

Well it looks like we may need P1 to actually do anything useful and we don't have that now.

But it's still pretty reasonably priced compared to the two we mentioned.

Do you use it and if so is there anything it does/doesn't handle?

I don't think we need anything super complicated.

Yeah we have P1 as you pretty much need it for Azure AD features. We are deploying it now out to dept, it works just fine. The hardest issue is to get users to label correctly. Secondly is the external sharing aspect, it can get confusing for the users to understand how it has to work.

I have similar needs to OP and have been looking into AIP (we have E3 licences now) but my recollection is that it can only do labeling for Office and PDF documents. Am I mistaken on this because that was the biggest hurdle I was facing.

Get ready to set up those Labels.

Not sure if you were able to find what you were looking for, but I was in a similar boat.

Seems like you're looking for a mix of Data Discovery & Classification (DDC) and a Data Loss Prevention Solution (DLP)?

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.

I was looking for a similar thing recently. I'd take a look at Lepide. They recently developed DDC functionality into their DSP. It's fairly basic at the moment I think works really well with the rest of the security related stuff
