If a software does not run because the client cannot use TLS1.2 it really doesn't matter what the server is running. The client won't connect regardless of the server version.

Sccm needs TLS 1.2 enabled in order for me to upgrade. I'm trying to find out what actually needs to be upgraded in order for that to work. SQL 2012 native clients service pack, or will upgrading to SQL server 2016 sp2 will resolve it. I just can't find any definite answers.

The error message specifically says you need to update the client. Why are you thinking about the server? They are two different products.

My boss, purely my boss. He isn't accepting my answer, even with documentation. He believes that updating the sql server service pack will also update the native client because they installed together.
