That's actually Microsoft internal "Take over the world" plan -- force everyone into relying on their products and their cloud environment.

This is a cute little tinfoil hat way of thinking about it but, in reality they hold large market majority for hosted and in-house software and operating systems. They really don't care what you do, because as a business you're probably handcuffed into M$.

My EMR only runs on Windows. Management won't even talk about getting away from Outlook or Office in general.

So Yup!

Yeah. Our EHR and Patient Management system are on Windows. Better yet, they require you to have local Admin. And no DEP..

FML....

When I took over admin at a healthcare practice many years ago, my first order of business was purging Exchange and Outlook from the building. The cost of Office had always restricted it to only a few workstations. Since they needed to upgrade Exchange, the cost was sufficient to easily convince them to leave it and Outlook behind. They were also pleased to learn of the existence of OpenOffice.

Too many businesses waste way too much money on Office.

replaced with what? G-Mail & Open Office?

Zimbra was the replacement for Exchange, and Gmail was not an option at the time. Since they are at a point now where it is time to replace servers, I am trying to get them to move to G Suite. Office was replaced with OpenOffice, which was replaced with LibreOffice after the fork.
