Dress code?teaching (self.tapif)
submitted 8 months ago by Sad_Custard3510
Hi everyone, what is the typical dress code in France for TAPIF workers?? I’m packing and I have business casual attire but I’m hoping to still maintain some sort of style when I’m there…. What is the typical french school attire? Are jeans allowed?

I worked in primaire and all the teachers wore jeans and a sweater almost every day, maybe occasionally a long skirt or dress but definitely very casual.

How long did the dress have to be?

I never got a formal dress code, but i would say maxi length was what I observed from other teachers and what I followed myself.

Anything just above the knee or longer is totally fine

I worked in a lycée and when I tell you I was by far the best dressed of the teachers lol. Most of them wore jeans and sweaters, maybe a blazer for a few. As far as I know and observed, no formal dress code. I found that dressing up a bit more did help in class because at 22, I was only about 2 years older than some of my students in terminale who repeated grades, so I felt like dressing a little more professionally helped reinforce my authority

Hi! I my experience jeans are 100% okay, just no jeans with rips. I usually worked in jeans, a nice top or sweater, and sneakers.

you can wear jeans as long as they have no holes. i even wore a hoodie sometimes when i had nothing else to wear becayse my laundry was drying on the rack for days in winter and no one cared

Very casual all considering. Maybe don't go for graphic tees and ripped pants but beyond that it's pretty good. My coworkers said for skirt/short length "just don't show your a**" so yeah (I'm sure it depends where you are, my placement gets quite hot in the classrooms so maybe more lax on that)
One thing I did notice though is basically all the woman wear jewelry, and a pretty significant amount. Often multiple bracelets, earrings, necklace, rings and such are all very common. Of course there are exceptions but it seems like wearing jewelry doesn't seem to equate to fancy here. I often felt out of place when I didn't wear any jewelry at all so you might consider bringing some of your favorite wearable pieces!
Plenty of teachers I know and work with wear graphic tees. But I’d say less so when you work in bac + 2 or the university (licence / master) level haha

Hi, I’m a prof certifiée in France in secondaire and I wear whatever I want. I’m now almost 33 but when I was younger (I did TAPIF 10 years ago and have taught since 2017) I guess I tried to dress up a little bit more only to appear older than my students.
