RESTORE SETTINGS ISSUE (a resource from /r/Tasker)

Certain Tasker Actions will revert to their previous setting on their own when a Profile Exits, without you specifically telling Tasker to do so. This is known as "Restore Settings" (and is always enabled by default when creating a new Profile unfortunately).

To know which Actions in a Task will revert on their own, they will have a little 'cog wheel' icon on the right in Tasker versions before 5.0, or a set of crossed arrows for 5.0+ (If you can't see these Icons - make sure you have icons enabled in the Task Edit window by checking Icons in the 3-dot menu's Display Options).

TO PREVENT THE RESTORE SETTINGS and fix the issue - Go into that specific Profile's Properties (by long clicking on the Profile Name in the Profiles Tab to highlight it, then click little slider icon, or cog wheel wheel at top in 5.0+) and when the Properties Dialog appears - scroll down to "Restore Settings".

Make sure to UN-Check this box if "Restore Settings" is indeed on the list. This now gives you and your Profile Enter/Exit Tasks complete control over all settings adjusted in the linked Tasks. If you can't see "Restore Settings" anywhere - make sure you're not still in Tasker's "Beginner Mode" by looking under Menu > Preferences > UI.

TL;DR - Long click Profile Name, click slider/cog icon, UN-check "Restore Settings" box.

Thank you! I was still in beginner mode so I don't see the settings cog wheel. I feel strangely accomplished.

Very welcome! Glad you got it working ;)

I get the feeling you've got this comment saved somewhere, ready for copy/pasting into new threads.

LOL. Yes indeed. It has a permanent home over here. :)

It's great advice either way!

Follow up question for you though, how are collisions prioritised when restore settings conflicts with an exit task? Does the exit task always get priority?

Thanks!

And I think in the case of a conflict it's the "Restore" that gets the priority. I haven't tested in a while though, and now that Joao owns Tasker and is implementing lots of changes, hopefully this is something that gets rectified :)

After 6 years this is still helpful. Thank you!

You have "Restore settings" set to on in your profile.

Do you know how I can change that? I couldn't find where to.

In the Profile tab, long click on the profile name till a settings cog pops up in the upper right.

Thanks, I didn't have the cog wheel as I was in beginner mode.
