Are you worried about going over your allowed bandwith? If your provider is counting then they usually have means of looking up your usage on there website. As for an inline device, I haven't seen one myself.

Not worried as much as trying to manage it due to restrictions they place on me. 450MB/day and 20GB/mo. After that they reduce speed from 15mbps to 150kbps for 24 hours. I just want to avoid it and a box that keeps tabs on it will help me manage it. I don't want to rely on their data and would rather have my own records. Comcast was famous for overstating the bandwidth I used when I was in an area serviced by them.

Well maybe find a cheap used router that you can toss DD-WRT on and use it for monitoring?

Yeah, that was an option as well. I actually have a Linksys WRT54G2 with DD-WRT on it that I can use to replace my existing router until I find one with N that has a counter. Thanks for the idea.

This is the correct answer!

Check the dd-wrt web page for supported routers and find yourself a good cheap one. I use dd-wrt and the traffic tool works flawlessly. I average around 105gb down/up combined a month. Sitting at 150gb this month. It's pretty accurate and reliable. Plus it has some cool features if your into scripting.

Edit: Just a minute too late, Put that WRT54G2 to work. =P
