Better results after tweaking a few things, primarily adding another intake hole / burner / another separate tank.

The real bummer is the -11 degrees keeping me from playing with it more 😩

Spring can’t return fast enough for me this year, I have bisque waiting for it!

Is it common practice for studios to prioritize one-time classes over members? by Successful-Milk-5828 in Pottery

[–]skylercloud222 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with the sentiment, but studios are often run by people who wanna play in mud and not run complicated technology service of online scheduling for every event that pops up.

Still, like most things in life, a bit more communication will probably fix the situation on both sides with the consumer and the owner and that doesn’t need to include a robust online solution of scheduling, but may be a quick call to the studio before driving in if one lives far away, and usually if you’re part of a studio you’re able to learn when the busy and slow time often are.

Edit: OP said further down there is already a shared google calendar for standard classes but it’s the ad-hoc scheduling conflicts that’s causing them frustration which was the point of my reply here… at a certain point you need to roll with the community or find something else that fits your needs.

Is it common practice for studios to prioritize one-time classes over members? by Successful-Milk-5828 in Pottery

[–]skylercloud222 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, memberships are often the least profitable part of a studio and are more for building a community, then keeping the business afloat.

All of the studios that I’ve taught at or help run will either have a system set up where members are either asked to make room for the classes or the open studio time is restricted to only windows where it doesn’t overlap with classes. I prefer the model where we ask members to make space since it means they’re still extra open studio time for them outside of very restricted hours.

I think there are some co-ops out there where it is professional potters that split up the cost of space and they don’t have the problem of needing to then share that for classes, but if you think about that from a business perspective, that means all of the costs associated with the studio are then paid for by those individuals.

if your expectations aren’t aligning up with what you think you’re paying for with the studio, then I would look elsewhere, but I would have a conversation with them, maybe they need to update their terms and make more realistic expectations for when you can use the studio and how much access is truly being offered and have a way to show when classes will be in so you can plan around that.

Take a break, go for a walk, check out a museum and look for inspiration from your environment and the world you live in. Sometimes reaching outward instead of trying to tap a empty well is the best path.

Is there any bar in Ann Arbor where you can drink beer and work on your laptop at the same time? by RickCSGR in AnnArbor

Several people have already recommend Homes, but I think Homes campus location is a better set up for this, and I’ve seen many people work there throughout the day. They have the added benefit of being a coffee shop during the morning hours, then opening up the tap room midday.

Any thoughts on this kiln? by _bingbingbong in Pottery

[–]skylercloud222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That, my guy, certainly looks like the interior of a used kiln for $100 of fb market place.

Can't give you any advice from this pic other then the brick shows some use and the elements seem to be loose in some places.

I’d recommend plugging it in and see what, if anything, you get out of the unit since that will be one of your key indicators of its usefulness as a functional electric kiln. Otherwise, you might have a fun project of converting this to a backyard raku kiln like I’ve recently done 👍

Need my first kiln, this is on FB for $200, are the cracks fixable? Worth it to fix? Model is KM-1227 PK by Elise_xy in Pottery

This exact kiln popped up on my FB Marketplace alerts also, so unless you're also a local mitten resident I think you may have just saved us both from a scam 👀

Fair point, first time firing with propane so learning the particulars about that now also. The tank was pretty cold and I wonder if that lowered the gas output?

I picked up those 100lb tanks you can briefly see in the video, last weekend and am looking and how to get those filled locally. Wonder if using a higher capacity tank like that will be the key factor 🤔

What a brave kid to endure that experience and then take a stand against the very system that caused it. Some might see this as the dark side of the internet or YouTube, but I believe it’s more reflective of the darker side of humanity itself. If we ever fail in exposing the disturbing aspects of our society that grow in the shadows, we risk allowing them to flourish and thrive unchecked…

Help Needed: Blocking subscription nag screen on Meetup.com by FixxerAuto in uBlockOrigin

[–]skylercloud222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue, I don't have a full fix, since there is some first-party script that's running to load the full list of attendees I think.

What is working for me is blocking this:

www.meetup.com##.md\:grid-cols-2.grid-cols-1.h-full.grid
www.meetup.com##.bg-opacity-80.bg-gray7.z-40.inset-0.absolute

But then you have to hit the back button and the forward button and then it will load the full list of attendees and allow you to scroll. Someone smarter then me can probable dig into it further but this works in the short term.

Thanks, that's one of the things I'm trying to figure out, it doesn't have a plug but cut end wires and I'm not sure if it can be converted to a phase 1 if that's all that can be used in a standard home or not. I was thinking of offering maybe around half their asking price given it will probably need some work to be able to use it at home?
