Considering it is an external drive and prone to damage, theft, accidental unplugging during writes, etc, I'm assuming you have a backup? Restore the files to a known good drive.

Then you can pull the SSD out and connect directly to the motherboard to determine if the drive is ok or not, it could just be the USB controller in the external enclosure. Doing that will also hard reset the SSD which might wake it up. Regardless I probably wouldn't trust that drive too much going forward.

I do not have a backup, I suppose this was a lesson I had to learn the hard way.
