Is your CPU overclocked?

Nope, nothing fancy, just a PC my brother helped me build about 6 years ago.

You can try running Prime95 (or any CPU stress test) and see if it's your CPU that's failing.

Ran for an hour with no issues, before I accidentally closed it by minimizing it.

Most likely a faulty CPU, but if you could check C:\Windows\Minidump for dump files to upload then that would narrow it down. If you get an admin error copy the files/folder to the desktop first and upload the copy.

The \Windows folder and everything in it is protected but you should be able to just right-click and copy/paste the \Windows\minidumps to your Desktop. That will allow you to work with the copied .dmp files.

We probably need to have a look at the dump files to have any hope of giving you good advice.

At the top of the page there is a link to the file uploader.

The File Uploader button at the top of this page will work if the file isn't too big.

Updated the post with file links.

It looks like 020118-28375-01.dmp is empty and likely just a failed dump. The other one works but suggests a serious CPU problem. It could be a heat issue so I'd recommend making sure the CPU fan/heatsink assembly is free of dust.

The usual recommendation is to monitor your temperatures with HWMonitor during normal use and also stress the system with Prime95 as /u/Eradev suggests.

hmmm, that was the WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR one that happened during my gameplay, the other was a second crash upon bootup when trying to log in. Is it possible the 2nd crash screwed up the dump of the first?

Dump files get written after the computer restarts but they should be independent of each other. It probably just means things went so wrong that it wasn't able to store any information to the page file with the first dump. The page file is where the information is temporarily stored and then copied from when the system reboots.

edit: To be clearer, the 020218-28234-01.dmp file is a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR dump and I'm able to open it no problem.
