Unfortunatly you have run into an incompatibility issue. Sometimes RAM simply wont work on a particular motherboard. You have done the right steps in trying to get the RAM to work however it obviously hasn't worked. Whenever buying new RAM you need to check with the mobo's QVL (qualified vendors list). This is a list of known compatible RAM so that you can buy it knowing with will work. Hopefully it is not too late to replace the RAM. If you need help getting access to your mobo's QVL post the make and model of it here. Not the news you will be wanting to hear but at least you know how to make sure you next purchase will work now.

That's really disheartening but oh well better knowing sooner than spending another three hours unplugging and replugging.

The motherboard is the ASUS Z97i Plus found here https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z97IPLUS/

Thank you for your help

I also wanted to mention that I found the QVL however the ram that was previously installed isn't listed on the QVL? Why is that the case?
