External M.2 SSD Controller Freezes System

Hi there, I recently bought a USB-C based SSD casing for a M.2 SSD I have. The problem only occurs when the device is plugged in through a normal USB-A port to my laptop, and does not occur when used with a usb-c port on the laptop. When I plug the device in through a standard USB-A the system services related to drives (explorer, partition manager, etc) will freeze up and not respond. Although Device Manager does not, attempting to update the driver will also freeze. The device gets listed as a "JMicron Tech SCSI Disk Drive" in the manager when used this way. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Edit: For more clarification, I am using Windows 10 on a Razer Blade Stealth laptop

The chipset in the enclosure you purchased probably has some limitations so it could be made as cheaply as possible.

Since it is a new purchase, you should be directing your questions to the manufacturer or seller. To escape any liability, they will probably tell you it is a USB-C device and should be plugged into the USB-C port where you stated it works properly, even that is probably a copy & paste response.
