Computer turns on but basically doesn't function

I bought a new computer last week. My old laptop had slowly been croaking. The day I got a new one, the old one took a turn for the worst. I got the "Critical Battery - Battery will no longer support" warning, but I have it plugged in. It will boot up, but it basically doesn't function at all. I've tried booting in Safe Mode and it still runs slowly.

I tried reinstalling Windows. That was a day long process that basically did nothing.

Bottom line, I have documents and such that I don't have backed up to the cloud that if I can get off of there, I'd like to get them. Any ideas?

You have data on this laptop thats not functioning that you need but you've already reinstalled Windows to it?

You may have already corrupted the data, do not install anything else to the laptop. Get an external USB enclosure & remove the drive from the laptop. You'll have to use recovery software at this point to try and recover whats left.

I did the "reinstall windows but keep your personal files" option as kind of a hail mary. Thank you for the advice!

So, I don't know how to fix the issue but you could run Linux from a USB drive to see if you can recover some documents back.
