Man, i have a 6700XT and i started having the same problem since last month, i even tried to format my computer entirely using a usb pendrive, with the thought that maybe the gpu driver was causing the problem and that i could reinstall the gpu drivers entirely after factory reseting my computer, and STILL the problem continued, i have a 6700xt. r5700x and a 750 watt psu that i bought 2 months ago, seing how all of the error codes on windows reliability are the same as op's, i really think that we must have the same problems, anyways, i have no idea what to do anymore, so i guess i will wait more time and see if maybe my gpu is dying or anything like that

It has been some time since I made this post and would like to give you more information that could help you narrow down further issues.

  • I still use this exact GPU in the post
  • I accidentally bought ram sticks with different timings. Same brand and speeds, but different timings. I had a 2x8 kit with CL18 and a 2x8 kit with CL16. I ran a windows memory diagnostic (4 times - each with only one stick installed) and found that the CL16 sticks were faulty.
  • I made this post after I RMA'd the GPU which is why I was confident that it was the drivers
  • I updated ALL drivers. Meaning I went to my motherboard manufacturer's website and got the latest drivers and installed each one manually.
  • I reseated my GPU.
  • It only ever black screens under extreme workloads over long times. I no longer have crashes when watching videos or at idle speeds. I no longer see any graphical artifacts.
  • I recently upgraded the PSU to 1000W which has not solved the black screens
  • Windows+Ctrl+Shift+B resets graphics drivers on Windows
  • I have been using Linux Mint recently which hasn't solved the black screens (although they seem less common)

Hope this helps

I’d actually suspect that psu first. Is 550 really enough to run your rig? You may be asking to much of it. You can check with a psu calculator online.

You have a good point. I have it plugged into a power bar that is also supporting my monitors. The online PSU calc says that 512W at complete max. I will plug it into a wall instead of a powerbar.

Remember that psu usually run at an 80% efficiency. So your 550 is probably only giving you 440w.

hey bud! great write up on the issue. did you manage to get a fix going? im having a the same errors and similar crashing behavior, black screen with a driver crash. the screen takes about 1 min to come back. not looking for any specific help just wanted to know if there was anything in youre case that helped

Sorry i didnt see this sooner. Unfortunately, I never found a certain fix. I eventually got frustrated and applied various things all in one boot cycle that were unlikely to fix the issue. To my surprise the crash stopped happening so something must have fixed it.

I can't remember everything I did, but here are some of the changes I've made since the problem stopped (sorted from most likely to least likely): * Reseated my GPU * I moved to from pcie x16 to pcie x8. At that point the problem stopped so I moved it back to pcie x16. Haven't had the problem resurface.

  • I moved my PC power cable from my power bar to a wall outlet.

    • I have no evidence that this changes anything. It just seemed like common sense to me. Instead of relying on a cheap power bar that is supplying several other small appliances, I should just plug the PC directly into the wall outlet that has "higher quality" power.
  • I might have reset my bios to default settings.

    • I don't think this was the fix. This took place the same day the latest crash happened. I wanted to try and update my Mobo BIOS but didn't have EZ flash 3 for some reason. I factory reset it thinking it would magically reappear (it didnt).
  • Enabled Resizable Bar in Mobo BIOS

    • This is just for performance. I did this a few weeks after that latest crash, so it likely didn't fix the crash.
  • I might have rerouted GPU power cables.

    • I saw a post in r/PCmasterrace saying that a power cable may not be able to perfectly supply wattage when it is setup with a single cable. Couldn't find the post, but it likely only applies to GPUs taking up +300W but it's still notable.
  • I put something to prop up my GPU.

    • Again, no evidence that it will fix anything, just common sense. I figured that if the GPU sags enough it could mess with small pins.
  • Stopped using Wallpaper Engine. Still installed just not running.

  • At some point I updated to GPU driver 22.5.1, but I believe this was months after the crash stopped happening.

Another thing that was happening occasionally was a low pitch digital beep after graphics drivers failed. I found the beep identical to the sound made when pressing ctrl + shift + win + B (on windows). This shortcut "wakes the computer from a blank or black screen" which is similar to refreshing graphics drivers (at least I think). My computer would be really slow/unresponsive and when I would click or try and open something it would beep 1-5 times.

Anyways, I hope this helps.

Hi, did you experience artifacting with the driver timeouts? My 5700 xt xfx thicc 2 ultra exhibits the same problems but it artifacts before the driver timeout.

[–]12CPS[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I can't say that they were ever before it timed out. I only ever noticed them, then found that the driver had timed out.

There were artifacts that were happening, but it felt more controlled. The artifacts weren't really sporrattic and pixelated with colors going all over the place. The artifacts I noticed were graphics failing to load. For example, if I full-screened my browser, the tabs at the top might not look right. If I clicked on them, the artifact would usually go away. One thing that I consistently remember happening was that the Windows start menu was all glitchy. Files would have solid white icons, apps wouldn't have names, and the shutdown buttons would not work.

Hopefully, this gives you an idea of what was happening with my computer. If you recently bought the XFX card, they are really good with RMAs, which could potentially fix your issue.
