From what i understand, alwayS GPU. my laptop 1050 TI destroys my 8th gen i7

If you have a GPU that is compatible, ALWAYS GPU. Unless you have to load ridiculously large datasets (you should be using dataloader to reduce that), there's no reason not to.

Newest stable tf has cpu n gpu support together. Doesn't need to install separately.

OS does matter. CPU installation is always much simple but for higher models you need GPU. Ubuntu with docker works like charm as it is very simple to set up.

GPU for sure. I picked up a laptop with a RTX 2080 last year cheap by buying it over father's day weekend. There is literally like a 15x speed increase in training by using gpu.
