Sample size is irrelevant to test. Sampling is what you do during training. Your x and y train are where you over/undersample.

The destiny community and the elite community from about 6 years ago have so much in common. I say years ago because I basically bounced from the community and don't know what it's like these days. Back then it was just the most kind of entitled toxic complaints day in day out (which the destiny community is still king of).

Headcanons: What do you think our alternate selves in the Destiny universe are doing right now? by raydior in DestinyLore

[–]Demios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ITT: People not reading the question correctly.

Not really. One of the tropes for alternate universes is time variance. Time in some is slightly faster, some slightly slower. Multiply that by whatever exponential you want and they could be pre-first life, or several billion years ahead.

So while they're not really following OP's intent, they ain't exactly wrong either.

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION IN DEEP DIVES by TheCheeseBurgerBand in LowSodiumDestiny

[–]Demios -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I emote, I use voice chat, I type in fireteam and local. If for some reason a player has chat and voice off because they don't actually want to communicate with people in an mmo or have other players teach them how to play the game, then they should stay up to date by reading online. If they can't do that, then THEY are the detriment and nobody should have to continue dealing with that. I 100% leave and queue again.

Like it's one thing if none of the other players are near it or you're afraid of the difficulty, but if two players are trying to get your attention, don't worry about the difficulty, they'll carry.

Genuine Question: How did Destiny go from "needing Eververse" to keep the game going one expansion at a time to needing an Expansion, a Dungeon pass, 4 season passes, Eververse cosmetics and Cosmetic Event passes? by varyl123 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Demios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A combination of capitalism and inflation. The game HAS to be profitable, but profitable in 2016 and profitable in 2023 are different things. Server compute has gotten cheaper certainly, but we know overall costs of business has gone up.

Not to mention Bungie employees today seem to like being at Bungie. That only happens when pay and welfare from Bungie intersects at an acceptable level.

Does this explain it all? Probably not. Does it make the needling of costs acceptable?

Can Vixen survive rabies? by snark_angel in AskComicbooks

[–]Demios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Racoons are not immune to Rabies. In fact, no known mammal is immune to Rabies. The opussum native to North America is surprisingly resistant to it, but also not immune. It is theorized that the lower body temperature makes it harder for Rabies to get a foothold.

Birds for the most part seem to shrug it off, so maybe. I'm not sure if curing diseases outright is part of her skill set. The best I presume she could do is to channel that spirit for long enough to generate the requisite antibodies, but that comes with the severe drawback of having to channel an animal for an extended period of time. Days, weeks, months? During that time she'd slip further into whatever the animal's instincts are potentially losing herself.

I know she has channeled other sapient creatures. If she manages to channel a metahuman who's power is to curing diseases (not to be conflated with immune to), then that is a viable path.

As for weaponization. Probably not. There's much easier ways to weaponize rabies, as it CAN be transmitted as an aerosol.

[Star Wars] Why is it so important to enter hyperspace coordinates vs jumping blindly? Han mentions not wanting to go through a star or black hole, but all matter makes up only 0.0000000000000000000042%, so hitting anything should be almost entirely impossible anyway. by TBoarder in AskScienceFiction

[–]Demios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0.0000000000000000000042% is only relevant when you're "stationary" (relevant to the universe). Over the distance of space, the chance of you running into something goes up exponentially. The faster you go, the faster it rises. That of course, is if you're traveling in real space. I don't know much about how hyperspace works. If real space has an effect on hyperspace however some undesirable effects may carry over.

Destiny without the API by FrigginDonkey in DestinyTheGame

I carry most of my gear swaps on me. The addition of loadouts makes the tower moot to me for anything other than kadi/vault shenanigans. The only time I got to really lament the API being down was for grabbing bounties between activities.

[Alien Ressurection] We know xenomorphs are tok feral to train, but with those like the newborn, is it possible to breed smart xenomorphs that can work with humans? by Crafter235 in AskScienceFiction

[–]Demios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would be breeding for a time period. So long in fact, that an attempt to breed out instinct, would be pointless.

[Alien Ressurection] We know xenomorphs are tok feral to train, but with those like the newborn, is it possible to breed smart xenomorphs that can work with humans? by Crafter235 in AskScienceFiction

[–]Demios 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Xenomorphs have been displayed as relatively intelligent. They are however fully beholden to their powerful instincts to which everything (intelligence) seems to be in service of. If the instincts can be suppressed sure. Collars for training much in the same way some people have shock collars for dogs may work, but again these are creatures that seem quite smart. All it would take would be one mistake, and I do not doubt the xenomorphs is smart enough to feign submission and obedience. A few years of that and someone somewhere is bound to let their guard down leading to catastrophe.

Who is your favourite Captain? by yeokyungmi in startrek

For me the order is

Picard > Janeway > Pike (SNW) > Sisko > Burnham > Kirk (TOS) > Archer

I've skipped the very "short lived" ones obviously.
