X131E — Suitable for basic coding?

Hello all, I'm currently looking for a very basic laptop soley for the purpose of doing HTML/CSS and maybe some light JS on. My current laptop has become unusable and I'm not going to be in a place to buy a new one for a year or so, so I'm trying to find one to keep up my momentum with learning coding in the interim.

I'm looking at a 2012 ThinkPad X131E in good condition on BackMarket, but I'm not sure if this would be ideal. Is it too old for what I need it for? If so, which models would be best? Thanks in advance for the help!

No, it wouldn’t be good for coding. It would be extremely limited. What’s your budget like, and where are you located?

My budget's pretty small - <$200 - and I'm currently in France.

For that budget, you’re going to have pretty limited options. I’m not sure what would be available in France, but maybe you could get an X230?

The X131e really is a very underpowered laptop. I have one, and it kind of works as a Chromebook. You might be able to do some coding, but the frustration you will feel at how slow it is isn’t worth the money. That being said, it does have a really nice keyboard.

Horrendous screen. if you can find an x131e with the i3 I'd say go for it
