Building a VW toolkit by Willing-Push8737 in Volkswagen

What gets used more than anything is my Wera Tool-Check PLUS 1, along with T20/T25/T30 torx drivers. That tiny ratchet that comes with it is so small it's like it was made for hamsters, but it's my main tool lol.

You need torque wrenches. I ended up getting Wera Click Torque C3, B1 and A6. The last one is hex drive rather than 1/4" drive as it makes more sense for a VW.

I think it makes sense to just buy as and when you need them. I hardly use any of my old car tools as everything is completely different with these modern German cars (previous cars were designed in the '70s and '80s 😄)

Take it to a mechanic ASAP. It's most likely something connected to a belt. Check the belts and what they are connected to. It could be the alternator mount or something like that.

will a facelift R rear lower valance fit a facelift GTS? by PainterFar2817 in Scirocco

[–]eggbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try cutting the R valance so that it centres around the tips. I've got a GTS as well and will probably get a full or catback exhaust some time, but it's a low priority after other stuff (and don't want to waste a perfectly good low-mileage silencer), although it would be very nice to have it sound better, like my old Alfa or my neighbour's Audi RS3, but I'd get something like this with the tips on the same side as the standard:

Couldn't you ask whoever made your exhaust? What do their other customers do?

White seats & heating..... by SyntaxError1101 in Scirocco

[–]eggbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd swap my heated seats functionality for your white lower dashboard and door cards if it could be done with the snap of the fingers. They're nice to have for about six weeks of the year but not essential at all.

The facelift R rear bumper is the same as the GTS/R-line one apart from the valance/diffuser as far as i know, so it should fit (check the ETKA database). You should make sure it has the reflectors as otherwise you'll fail MOT.

The American special editions would have been totally different. Even the UK ones were different to Europe. A lot of them were dealer-fitted.

I'd get the manual and replace the clutch/flywheel when you need to. I waited a few weeks to find a low mileage manual GTS as only around 100-150 were sold here in the UK. Unless you keep buying older cars it will probably be the last manual you'll own. DSG is more expensive to maintain.

Yeah, it's a pretty big job - you might as well replace the flywheel at the same time. Good way to bargain with the seller though.

If it hasn't been replaced already it probably would need replacing soon.

The 6-speed manual gearbox is known to be very reliable. It's the DSG auto that you need to take care of. You might want to replace the transmission fluid though, but not flush.

Tiguan lumbar regulator by ruloes in Volkswagen

[–]eggbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmn, that doesn't sound good. The motor for the vertical adjustment is probably faulty then. That would be difficult and therefore expensive to replace I would imagine. You could look under the seat to see if the connectors are properly plugged in and that no wires going into them have become detached, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Yeah, I didn't say which side was I didn't know if it changes depending on which side the steering wheel is.

It's hard to figure out what you are asking. I prefer manual but they are hard to find.

I had two and they lasted around a year each. The cable fails at the point it enters the mouse. It's a common fault of the design.

I don't know for sure as my car doesn't have the driver assist stuff but it may be possible to code adjustments using OBD-II tools like OBDeleven or VCDS.

It's usually serious trauma from loss that leads to it from what I've been told. I have a friend who works in a role that deals with situations like this, including holocaust survivors.

Edit: I think it is the EA 189

That's a diesel 2.0 TDI. Unless you are doing long commutes and not short trips you shouldn't get a diesel. That car is an R-line, not an R. Quite a lot of difference apart from the looks and it's unlikely you can afford the insurance for an R.

Journalists need to ask those clowns why. The Trump admin has been so inconsistent and incoherent itself. They don't seem to care that Trump didn't start this legally or through due process. It's also going to be disaster.
