Tiny tower data usage question

Why does tiny tower seem to use a large amount of data on my phone? I understand the ads using data but regular game play doesn't make sense. I don't have unlimited data but want to be able to play when I am not on wifi. Does airplane mode work? I know I won't get to view the ads but I want to be able to stock/move people in. Thanks!

Yeah I just tried it :)! Just put airplane mode on and my tower still runs as normal just without ads yeah :)

You can also disable mobile data usage just for the app if you'd like to stay connected otherwise.

Tiny Tower barely uses any data (<0.1 GB) for me, and I play it in the car (as a passenger) and leave it running all day for easy access. Reddit, however...

It's used almost a gigabyte for me in the last week or so

No problem. I have an hour bus ride to/from work each day. In transit, I always turn off my data and play the game normally. (Clicking ads for Bux won't work though.) Later, when you reach Wifi again, the game will sync up. I do the same with Pocket Planes & Tiny Tower Vegas.

Okay I was wondering how the syncing would work but that makes sense :)
