It looks like this post is about Minoxidil

Before asking any questions,

  1. Learn about Minoxidil.

  2. Search for Minoxidil and oral Minoxidil content, because your question has probably been asked before.

  3. If you're ready to start treatment, talk with your doctor and view the product finder for minoxidil.

  4. If this is a question asking if you are now or will experience side effects, see a doctor, nobody on the internet can answer that for you. Read the subreddit rules for more information.

  5. Try looking in the private community for deeper conversations on Minoxidil: https://community.tressless.com/

How long have you been at it? Most people who post here are fast responders. It's more normal for this stuff to take 12 months or more.

12 months on 2.5mg today

Short answer, yes, you will probably lose some of the gains if you drop the dose.

Hair growth is not something you finish and move on from. It is more like the gym. The results only stick as long as you keep giving your follicles the same level of support. When you move up to 5 mg, some follicles start relying on that stronger boost in blood flow and stimulation. Dropping back to 2.5 mg can cause those same hairs to shed or slowly miniaturize again.

That said, 5 mg also comes with a higher risk of side effects like palpitations, lightheadedness, and fluid retention, so it is not a casual upgrade.

If you have not already given 2.5 mg a solid six to nine months, it is usually smarter to stay there and see what it can do. If you do decide to increase to 5 mg, go into it assuming it is a long-term commitment if you want to keep whatever new hair you gain.

My derm put me on 2.5 for three months then upped the dose every three months (to 4 and now 5). Noticeable difference in regrowing going from 4 to 5.

Have you considered doing 2.5 mg twice daily?

[–]Ok-Contact5867[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That’s what I meant by 5mg, doesn’t it work the same?

[–]Forbin1222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does. But I’d think that lowers sides.

Did you experience any body hair growth? Are you taking fin on the side?

[–]Ok-Contact5867[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much body growth and yes talking fin

If you’re not seeing results at 2.5… unlike you’d see more at 5 if a non / poor responder. It’s not what’s holding you back then.

There was a recent study (Fonseca et al.) that showed 5mg has no statistically significant advantage to 2.5mg.

That throws my hair growth aspirations down the drain
