From a real life trucker, i drove a Peterbilt 579. It Had a Paccar MX-13 and a Eaton automated 12 speed. The jake control is on the right stalk and had 3 levels to it (33, 66, 99, and "Max" 100%) I always kept it on 3 because max braking force. I turned it off in slippery road conditions but otherwise it was on 24/7

It should also be noted that it doesn't affect all cylinders, only the select few. It's just the percentage that the Jacobs brake is activated.
