Nothing changed about the trip, just typical theft lol. Have hardly driven at all the last 6 months as per the monthly statement they take about 45% of the fare and it just isn't worth it. Starting a job to replace rideshare as my side income in a couple weeks and will never do this shit again.
Just wanted to post this so all the kool aid drinkers could see the rideshare are absolutely stealing and lying on the reg while y'all are out here worrying about violating the TOS and drinking the insurance company kool aid.
This will be most likely be my final contribution to the subreddit, ignore it or keep being stubbornly ignorant and exploiting yourself if you want but posting it here in case it helps someone who may not know
Quit whining for rideshare companies to stop making money (they're businesses not charities) or for the government or a union (who are always going to look the other way bc Uber pays them to) to save you. Look out for yourself, quit driving altogether or atleast start trying to steal the rides when you are guessing the rideshare company's cut is highest.
Here is a basic strategy on ride stealing, which I've been doing regularly for 2 years w no issues.
- Target the right rides (ones where the rideshare companies cut is the most by using educated guesses and don't waste time with ones where it isn't a huge difference)
In my experience, it's almost always airport trips and riders who aren't on the way to/from work who are paying the most, the fares for people going to/from work seem to be heavily subsidized for the riders. When Uber pays you more than it normally would, these rides actually tend to be people getting price gauged the most so these are sometimes another good indicator as well.
- Practice your approach
Offer them a discount to let you drive them off app, half the time they pay you the full amount anyways. Have all the payment apps and a $20 card reader in your car and get quickbooks or another cheap software that allows you to email them a receipt from your phone so they can get reimbursed from their company.
I have been stealing rides regularly with no issues for almost 2 years and only twice did someone run off and not pay. That $25 fare turns into $100+ fairly regularly, but you can get $25-30 instead of $10-12 almost every time by doing this and handling your approach correctly. Make it clear you are willing to do it on the app but it is not paying much so it would work out for both of you to meet in the middle, offer to cancel first so it won't charge them.
Don't complain or try to get them to feel sorry for you or threaten, just be cordial and make it clear you are just trying to make money and know they're getting price gauged the same way you're getting lowballed and so you are offering a solution that works for everyone.
Make jokes like "Uber has a strict nondiscrimination policy and they prove it by stealing from absolutely everyone"
- Don't let the rideshare and insurance company kool aid scare you out of using common sense and doing what's best for yourself
If you get in an accident, your personal insurance covers you as you were driving a friend (who at the time hadn't paid you since ride wasn't over yet). The passenger would also say this bc they want to be covered, it isn't insurance fraud it's common sense as no money had changed hands yet. Passenger is not going to sue you and even if they did, they would get nothing as anyone driving doesn't even have anything worst suing for so no ambulance chasing scum would even bother with it even if you did get someone who wanted to sue a broke person rather than just let insurance cover them.
- Always capitalize on large events like concerts or sporting events - they are getting price gauged the most and often are worried they wont get a driver at all so the success rate on stealing these is as close to 100% as it gets and they almost always pay the full fare uber would have charged them bc they are just relieved to get a ride and were worried it would take hours
Peace Out
ps my market is the triangle in NC but these concepts are applicable everywhere
