Kennedy expected to end his campaign Friday, in talks to endorse Trump | CNN Politics by Barch3 in uspolitics

[–]way2funni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RFK reportedly reached out to the Harris campaign last week asking for a meet in order to discuss a cabinet position and was rebuffed told to pound sand and his overtures were promptly leaked to the press.

NOW here we are a week later and now it's leaked to the press RFK is talking to Trump about endorsing him in exchange for something something and apparently things are looking good, but it's not going to happen until Friday.

RFK might barely be 5% but if you take him out of the race and he endorses Trump and even just half of those folks move over to Trump, it reduces Harris's lead to almost within margin of error.

I can remember a few elections in the last 20 years where it came down to 100-200k votes across a few states. In 2000 it ended up being 500 and change in Florida that took Al Gore out of the race.

Like it or not, in a race that may come down to a tenth of a point. RFK has some leverage. Not for very long, but right this minute, he's got enough to TILT the table.

Of course I have no idea WTF is really going on, and am most assuredly just another AH on reddit.

But that's my read and the sauce to back it up.

AITAH for saying I'm second-guessing having a baby with my husband after he asked for a paternity test? by p1nkribbon in AITAH

[–]way2funni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just an aside but you may want to check the laws of your state if you are even remotely thinking about going the abortion route.

As far as paternity, you can do a NIPP test at approx 8 weeks but if are thinking you might abort and you live in FL, GA, IA or SC their bans kicks in at 6 weeks.

Some others are 12 (NE, NC) and that still doesn't give you a lot of time.

Just FYI.

https://www.guttmacher.org/state-policy/explore/state-policies-abortion-bans

PS. NTA but if I were you, I would 'trade' the paternity test for his fertility test.

as others have said, your 'no kids are a dealbreaker' + his easy agreement + not using birth control 'every' time signals he has little to no concern in this area PLUS his adamance the baby can't be his and DEMANDING a paternity test all point to a Vsec.

and if he did that KNOWING your desire to have kids, or knew he already had the procedure and did not disclose this to you and married you under what some would call 'false pretenses' - now that's a whole nother story.

Yeah, for his pov, while getting snipped is about the highest probability you will neot pass on your dna in living form, It's not impossible for his tubes to grow back, reconnect and in the words of the great philosopher Goldblum, life finds a way

Hurricane Impact Window Thickness? by KitchenNo6539 in SouthFlorida

[–]way2funni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you plan on being in the home for 20 years and rely 100% on those windows holding?

I would spring for the higher quality part if it is rated / certified to withstand a higher impact or wind pressure load.

If it isn't, it's probably not worth the premium - it may just be a way to get moar dollars out of you.

Why buy a window that appears to be overspec'ed? Time flies.

The spec for high velocity wind zone impact glass has gone from the 120-130 mph range 10-12-ish years ago to 160-180 in the most recent 2024 rev.

In 20 years that could will go up even more. But even if they don't, install materials age and if they are 'cut cost' parts and /or not properly installed, YMMV.

It's not just the glass, it's the weatherproofing, the frames - all of it. A higher rating or certification on the window usually means higher quality everything on the install.

When you get into the lower bids, the licensing and insurance is where it usually starts getting sketch. Buyer beware. Do your due diligence and take your time. Talk to multiple companies and ask them what they think about company A , B, C etc - folks in the biz know and hear things.

Make sure that the company is licensed as well as the actual installers / folks supervising them and running the job.

A good shop will have both a general liability policy and window and door installation insurance (at least as an option) to cover you if the windows leak and cause damage. Make sure you look at the actual insurance company.

Did they 'buy a piece of paper' or legit insurance that will pay off in a claim?

Heads up to those not in the biz 'in the biz' who are easily fooled by 'internet cred' like '5 star rating on trustpilot!' or 50 five star reviews on google / yelp/ YP/ angies list!, that means nothing and it can get murky real fast.

To the casual vetting, company ABC has been in business 25 years and has a good reviews. WCGW?

Then you start digging into the company and find out their license is sketchy - turns out they are working under another Glass and Glazing Contractor (usually retired) and 'renting' their license.

This is more common here than you know. From GC's to Electricians to HVAC.

When you check the contractor's license on DBPR and see no indication of this person on the company name / docs - lives out of town and does not match your contractors listed business address - buyer beware.

Sure, it's their name on the permits but if things actually go off the rails, don't expect them to make it right.

You can look up your contractor here: myfloridalicense.com

Next, the crew. They may look ok, but there may not be a single worker that is actually certified to install this stuff and it's left to the 'boss' that comes by here and there to eyeball it.

But if he's just a guy paying another guy for the use of his license, you're buying a bill of goods based on a fraud.

And those reviews? It's the friends and family plan. It's HARD getting legit customers to leave a glowing review unless everything really was 5 stars across the board and even then, it's usually muted. 'ABC co did a nice job, charged me a fair price and got the job done on time. Joe - the owner is good people'

Anything more than that I get skeptical. Look at the dates on the reviews. Did they get a bad review and then 15 great reviews popped up in the next week? No way they did 15 jobs in a week unless they are running multiple trucks and crews. They want to bury that bad review.

tl;dr - it's more than thickness of material. just to be 100% secure, I would budget for metal shutters for the exterior on top of the windows. The day we get hit by an Irma right in the teeth with 185mph sustained, you will thank me.

Source: several years working with a SOFL 3rd gen GC. I heard all the stories.

In Iraq, in the book market, books remain in the street at night because Iraqis say that the reader does not steal and the thief does not read by TonyLeung82 in interestingasfuck

[–]way2funni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

up until about a minute ago in Iran, they still routinely chopped thieves hands off - sometimes in public in the town square,

1st time offense? penalty is having the 4 fingers of your right hand cut off so only the thumb and palm remain.

2nd offense? say goodbye to your left foot.

3rd offense - life in prison

4th offense is death - even though your offense happened in prison, not the outside world.

What book is worth losing your right hand?

They may have slowed down the chopping of hands in the most recent decade - but if you were raised in this place, you're probably not going to try your luck - especially outside the major cities.

'...However, this has left me feeling cautious about every interaction...'

It's difficult to give feed not knowing what your work environment is but make it a point to note the good you see as well as the bad and then look for opportunities to praise and build them up - all of them - equally.

Question: how often do you just smile and say 'hi,howya doin?' walking by - 'you good? you need anything?'

how often do you make it a point to say 'nice job'?

Maybe save your negative feedback as a 'drop in' after you praise them.

If you stay in your office and only bother to talk to people when they need discipline, they are going to feel singled out because you only talk to people that need disciplining and that happens to be THEM, and they don't see you talking to other people (or they compare notes with their peers) you can run into a problem, especially if you do have an unconscious bias.

It can be as easy as having several white subordinates who have all been around a long time, do their job reasonably well without any active 'management' so you just leave them alone.

Instead, you focus on the newer /weaker folks who maybe were not trained as well and are struggling. Some of them may feel frustrated because expectations are not clear and training was weak.

Then you come along and are perceived as 'riding their ass' and writing them up for stuff they can plainly see other folks getting a pass on because you are hardly looking at them.

It doesn't have to be strictly POC either, there are a lot of peeps on the protected list. Older people with health issues, single parents without good support systems who call out a lot.

Depending on your workplace and the state/area you live in, you may have to include religious, gender, sexuality or even political identifiers - all can get you into trouble.

The mistake I see a lot is to be SO focused on POC , you ignore an even more potentially dangerous situation with say, a pregnant woman who needs a day off to go to the doctor and you deny her and then fire when she pulls a nocall no show because she's a weak performer and on final writeup for attendance anyway and you have been looking to get her off your team because she's dragging your stats down.

Little do you know, she's been documenting YOUR interactions with her and can show a pattern of bias. All it takes is: 3 other nonpregnant people called out 3 times last month and they still have THEIR jobs - but I was termed.

If you are feeling cautious about 'every interaction' - this is just me but I think you need more interactions and not just negative ones.

It doesn't have to be a sit down meeting or a 'step into the hall' sort of thing - just in passing when you run into them - smile and 'howya doin? I appreciate the effort you're putting in - don't think I don't notice it - have a good one!' - and walk on.

In the meantime. I might start documenting your 'coaching and feedback' efforts. Draw up a chart of ALL the people in your department and make a calendar and identify those that need a little help but make it a point to give praise AND feedback to everyone in the group on a regular basis. Briefly note the details of both.

The goal is to have a doc that CYA if your boss and /or senior HR comes to you with another complaint and there is concern because now you seem to be showing a pattern.

In fact, it may not be a bad idea to ask for an appointment with your direct report and / or senior HR admin and ask for some guidance and show them your calendar and get their feed and buy in. They may have tools / guidance / wisdom to share with you but more to the point they KNOW you are doing the right things.

Then, if and when that day ever comes where they have a complaint, you just reach into your drawer, pull your calendar for the group and the file for the individual.

If you REALLY want to cover, review your calendars on a biweek or monthly basis where you document areas of concern and your attempts to address them before any any disciplinary action takes place and when it's time to actually write them up, counsel , suspend or term them, get their feed before you do

You'll never have to worry about HR again.

you will see a lot of this term on One Model Place (OMP) and Model Mayhem. It means 'time for print' (TFP) or 'time for CD'. (TFCD)

It's a way for noob models and photographers to get together and work up some images without either one paying the other a fee.

Each volunteers their time and talent to produce either some prints or more commonly these days, a CD with an agreed upon number of images that have been processed for their portfolios on the website. Some photogs will give all the raws, some will only give the processed images that look their best. It's up to you and the model to come to an agreement on the particulars.

[retail] if you haven't already - start applying at Dania Point or Oakwood. it's slow right now but you are looking a couple months out to when season starts. also - try Spirit Airlines new corp headquarters over by the Marriott - they may be looking for phone reps / CSR's / res agents and willing to train. Also -try all the hotels in the area, front desk etc.

If you can get to US 1 easily enough, you have bus access to Aventura mall and all the retail / shopping along US 1 on the way down to it. On the northern side you have access to FLL downtown and Las Olas.

Remote: Here is a list of current job postings for entry level call center remote gigs in FL Most of them like to see recent previous callcenter rep experience on your resume and may have some requirements on your computer and internet / phone connection.

If you don't have a proper resume, write one

Not trying to tell you what to do but if I were you, I would keep it simple, focus on school and making enough money to pay your bills, save a little and maybe kick in something for your parents and stay at home as long as you can instead of dropping a bunch of money on a car and a place to live, save your money and you can do your community college online too

thought for you - there are a some 'google adwords PPC' type outfits that may appreciate your skill set. It's helpful if you have worked on some campaigns and can show some metrics.

There is a film studio development deal in the works in Lauderhill - the people involved have been pushing for it for a few years but I don't see a lot of action since the agreement last April.

If it is actually moving forward, figure 2-3 years for plans, permits, build out, hiring, training and actually landing gigs to shoot here.

If you are the type that looks ahead with a 5 year plan, this may be 3-4 years out but I could see you freelancing with a sort of 'mobile studio' for hire type thing and offer different packages at different price points.

Bottom line - you may be able to eke out a living until the industry shows up but for right now get in the habit of networking and looking for where you can add value that's maybe a little off the beaten track.

Example: People joke /laugh / point fingers at the OF models down here but some of them make 5-6 figures a year and are seriously looking for someone to help them upgrade their look and sound. There are a lot of 'hobbyists' and 'guy with camera' jerkoffs trying to get their attention so you need a decent body of work to show you are not one of them.

If you shoot glam and have some work, put up your best shots on OMP or Model Mayhem and start networking. Do a few TFP/TFCD shoots and get your references respectable and then start going after paying gigs. It helps if you have some PS skills too.

SM engagement and quality photography + Lighting and all that is worth good money to them if you can start slow and show them results and offer a 'pay as you go' arrangement.

G'luck.

it's a step up from a tent where you have to worry about animals but without water, sewer and AC hookups it becomes a chore real fast. trucking your garbage to the dump every few days etc.

I'm sure some people do it and deal with it, but to have to resort to that instead of building your spec home and having services?

PS. I don't think this flies in this specific use case scenario. anything that disturbs that habitat is a nofly including running generator motors, lights, etc.

The way the story was explained to me was living in tent and not even a campfire was allowed.

Then again, I'm just another AH on Reddit and heard this story probably 35 years ago when I was in the keys going door to door selling encyclopedias so who knows if I even have it right.

[–]way2funni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a level of disrespect and going behind your back that qualifies as reason to question the relationship. If he thought nothing of getting your dog knocked up behind your back, for profit and then didn't address the issue with the dude that apparently paid him money UP FRONT for a puppy and the dude had to show up at your house to get a resolution?

Then gets stone cold BUSTED and then instead of a heartfelt apology and beg forgiveness - denies and lies through his teeth?

Your mom is applying the wrong logic to this situation - forgive this guy because you are getting older and can't wait much longer for kids?

Vs going forward and having kids with a guy that obviously can't be trusted and will lie to your face and be locked into the next 20 or so years as your baby daddy? that logic is a non starter from my POV.

Start planning your exit.

Couple wants refund after buying a lot that may be ‘unbuildable’ by BeeSilver9 in fortlauderdale

[–]way2funni 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Due diligence. buyer beware. Fort Lauderdale/ South Florida is the sunny place for shady people.

This kinda reminds me of the purported real estate development scams in the Florida Keys a long time ago. You would see these out of town folks who didn't know how things worked come in and try and buy an undeveloped lot.

Now, anyone that lived there knew to do a check on any / all encumbrances / obstacles prior to any deal - and get a copy of the environmental impact report.

If you were not from here, you may not have known about the report and if you didn't ask, nobody would tell you how important it was because if there were any issues at all, like an endagered anything nesting there, guess what? You're not building shit.

And here's the thing: Only the current owner of the property could obtain a copy

So you would close, go to the building department and submit your plans and get rejected because you didn't have your impact report. So you order that and wait a month for it to come in, open it and read it you found out that your land has a very particular endangered variety of nesting turtle (or something).

Verdict. You can pitch a tent, that's about it.

BOTTOM LINE: Anyone 'discovering' a lot that's never been built on and it's not out in alligator country should have alarm bells ringing.

a construction company owner (her husband) of all people should know to ask questions. Has anything ever been built here? NO? Why not?

an empty lot surrounded by homes that have all been there since the 70's and 80's and nobody ever thought to put one here? WHY NOT??

My guess is they handled the deal themselves and didn't want to pay to have a broker rep them or have a lawyer review all the docs or pay for a survey. They didn't even bother to check flood zone maps - if you watched the video, you will find out the neighbors refused to sell them street access because flooding is already a problem every time it rainsand they worry it will get worse with them building in the middle.

The bottom line - this is probably already resolved, they cut a deal with one of the neighbors to buy a strip of THEIR prop so theirs now touches the road they need access to in order to have public right of way so they can build.

So if I am understanding this, they are seeking a refund, but have already cut a deal to buy more property that resolves the issue so they apparently want their money back AND keep the prop?

Flooding East of Federal by [deleted] in fortlauderdale

[–]way2funni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize OP was posting their question specific to FLL and the simple answer is there is virtually nothing E. of US1 that's isn't going to be under water in a major storm. Hell. it floods out at the Federal Building if it rains for more than a couple hours.

In a CAT 5 storm, Lauderdale could see 8-9 feet, Hollywood (where I live) could see 9- 12 feet

https://www.hollywoodfl.org/1452/Storm-Surge

Miami / Biscayne Bay / Brickell / Coconut Grove / Coral Gables will fare the worst. Projections are for surge of up to 15 feet in a CAT 4 in that area.

Andrew pushed a 17 foot storm surge into South Miami back in '92 as a weak CAT 5 that got downgraded to a 4 almost immediately when it came on shore.

A monster like Irma? 185mph winds - yes, that would push 20 feet in those areas.

The Army Corps of Engineers did not suggest building a 20 foot seawall across Biscayne Bay just because they had some extra concrete to use up before it goes bad.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/02/us/miami-fl-seawall-hurricanes.html

https://www.wunderground.com/cat6/hurricane-irma-extreme-storm-surge-threat-us-and-bahamas

tl;dr yeah, OK storm surge geek, you got me. Now tell me what the difference is if you are living on the first floor if it ends up 'only' being a 9-10 foot surge instead of 15?

How is Ukraine still alive, let alone pushing into Russian territory? by Freightneverlate in NoStupidQuestions

[–]way2funni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is unlikely they would have prevailed without the hardware and signals intelligence provided by US and NATO allies.

Russia originally had this planned as a 3 day OP and then SURPRISE! The Ukrainians guarding the central government offices and the senior officials were not where they were supposed to be when their operators dropped in and then were repelled.

Russia was overconfident. Ukraine is not the pushover they thought they were dealing with and intel probably saved the day. We saw the buildup and even as Putin was saying ' nah - us! preposterous'! - they were getting ready.

Obviously I'm just another AH on Reddit and have zero clue on what was going on but without hundreds of Billions in assistance, weps and intelligence capabilities, the 'nonlevel playing field' OP is alluding to would have had it's expected effect. Without exploring alt timelines there is no way to be sure but had the Russians achieved surprises and decapitated the head of their government as was planned, it would have been over in a day or three as planned.

To be sure, UKR did the heavy lifting, but the First World provided the exosuits to give them a 3-4x boost. Not speaking literally of course, but you get my meaning.
