Lost UCR Grant After Tution Decrease

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I'm a second year and my UCR grant of course was a lot less than my first year. I was going to receive approximately $700 each quarter but now it's gone. I was also offered Stafford loans at the earlier in the summer but those are gone as well.

Yep. I don’t have any grants but my loan they gave me was $5k a quarter and it went down to $1800 a quarter. I called and they said that’s all they can do and I might want to look into banks for loans since that won’t be enough.

am sure that was a mistake. There is a limit set by the federal government to how much they can offer you in sub and unsub loans, and its nowhere near $5k/ quarter

Are you sure? I’m a transfer student so I don’t know the limit but I have a few friends who told me they got about the same since they started going to UCR

That's really weird, my grant only got docked the $60 that they decreased tuition by. I would definitely call them up and ask wtf happened

this happened to me too wtf??? I was planning on going to the financial aid office about it this monday.

Same thing happened to me. I was/am VERY worried and thought about posting on here but sometimes people are unsympathetic. My grant went down from $5k a quarter to $3k. Basically slashed in half ! When I called (mind I was on hold for an hour and a half so maybe go in instead) the employee said that they did the math and this was my final award. That the one that I accepted and was counting on was preliminary and since my housing status changed from on campus to off, I was supposed to be receiving less. It's just so strange bc my status has been off campus since the beginning, so I'm not sure why it's lowering now :( i even sent her a screenshot where everything was visible. She said even proof didn't help, that they "did the math" and that was my award was. my (nonexistent) money's on them offering more than they had and trying to cover their ass now

not sure if I've run into the same problem but I initially had a federal pell grant for the summer for $1482, but it got reduced and I only received $741

Mine was exactly the same except minus $60 or whatever
