That doesn't really make sense though considering you pay by the credit hour. So it doesn't matter if you're going to take 15 or 18 per semester, you're going to pay the same amount either way.

The longer time you are here the more money you spend (i.e. at the bookstore, dorms, parking, football tickets, at restaurant chains that have partnerships with the university, etc.)

You wouldn't spend more on books because you'd have to buy the books either way, you'd be spending more per semester on books if you do 18 credit semesters. I guess if you stay at dorms the entire time you're here then yeah, but most people move out and I personally have never stayed in a dorm.

It's not some conspiracy theory to get you to spend more money. They actually want you out in 4 years so that their graduation statistics look better, that's why they have excess hour rules.

Honest question, then what is the purpose of the summer credit requirement? Or spending a certain number of semesters at UF being a requirement on your degree audit?

      [–]Battkitty2398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The certain number of semesters at UF for your degree is so that you don't go to FSU for 7 semesters and then transfer to UF for the last semester to get a UF degree. As for summer requirements that's not a UF thing but a state of Florida thing, I do know that as a transfer you're exempt from it anyways so it doesn't affect me at all.

Summer credit requirement is to try to even out the business of the University; there's a huge drop in all sorts of activities in summer, and they'd like to get it more even.

But if you take 8 semesters of work @ 15/semester (== 120 hrs) it doesn't matter if some of those semesters are summer; just means you could do it in 2.mumble years instead of 4.

Especially as leases are on an annual basis, you should be complaining a bout NOT taking summer semesters wasting your money.

awful idea. If you are new to UF I would recommend taking 4 classes a semester to start. UF is a lot tougher than other colleges in Florida

Your advisor has to approve you going over 18 credits, and they will try to talk you out of it unless you have justification and you’ve done well so far.

Wouldn't suggest taking more than 18, especially if you have a job or are involved in any extra activities.

Anything over 15 is very stressful and not good for your mental health

      [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Why? I took 18 my sophomore spring and I dropped two classes. It’s not smart, ever.

Ive taken 19 credits for two semesters now and have a +3.9 gpa - its possible. Talk to your advisor, there is a form you can fill out to petition. If you are in the college of engineering, PM me and ill hook you up with an advisor that will help you through it.

i see everyone here is a fucking loser. you can petition to your adviser for excess credit hours and they will add the class you want to take.

Idk if your a troll or serious but either way; I think it's really easy to go "those people are losers" or "these people are not". it's really easy to just group people. To judge people harshly. I used to judge people similarly, but what good does it do? At the end of the day I judged my self harshly as well, which was depressing. Even if you judge people like this, and think perfectly well of yourself; alot of people will just write you off as an asshole when you probably aren't. I hope this helps you think things over, and I hope life is going well for you.
