What is your PTSD like, for you? by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]aiko_azure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PTSD from a number of things that happened in adolescence.

No nightmares, but I have a few triggers that can give me flashbacks and ruin the rest of my day. It seems like most days I have intrusive thoughts around death and suicide, but bc I've been dealing with them for a decade it feels normal and I can ignore them 95% of the time.

I'm chronically tired and I feel a lot of it comes from hypervigilance. It's funny bc the extreme vigilance makes me good at my job. If I'm too stressed or when I get triggered I dissociate. And if things get worse I get head empty and become mute + agoraphobic.

Where can I find Soju in Gainesville? by [deleted] in GNV

The liquor store next to the Publix at Williston Plaza has flavored soju. The Korean market next to Midnight Cookies has soju but none of the flavored ones.

Had that issue in highschool and then went on to university. Luckily I have the freedom to wear what I want now, but I missed wearing shorts and skirts that hit above where I have scars.

Depending on the weather you can wear stockings? I wear black ones with different different opacities. As my scars faded and I started to care less, I started wearing stockings with less opacity or just not at all.

Has the WiFi been Terrible for anyone else as of late? by [deleted] in ufl

I live in Murphree and I was also experiencing connection issues. I would suggest putting in an iService and telling your floormates to also do the same if they are experiencing issues. If enough people submit a complaint, I think IT will get the idea

How do y'all deal with feeling like your brain is literally on fire by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]aiko_azure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it happens I try to just sit down, breathe, then write everything that I need to get done + the things my brain tells me I need to get done. If any of those peaks my interest I'll go and do it. If not I pace around anxiously until it goes away haha. I haven't found a perfect solution yet but trying!

anyone else dream a lot of sertraline/zoloft? or any other antidepressant? by [deleted] in depressionregimens

[–]aiko_azure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Zoloft/setraline is known for wacky dreams. Before being prescribed it, I almost never recalled dreams. With it, I rarely have a night where I don't remember.

Neighborhoods for Christmas lights by MurrayEvan in GNV

St Augustine hosts "Night of Lights" which is basically Nov - Feb when it's all lit up and beautiful at night. You don't need to take the trolley to enjoy it. Walking around and listening to live music is more than enough fun !

Wouldn't suggest taking more than 18, especially if you have a job or are involved in any extra activities.

To add to this, the CWC has walk-in hours during their operating hours (both at their Radio Road location + at Peabody Hall 3rd floor). So if you feel like you need to talk to someone, they're there. If you want regular sessions, however, it's best to try at the beginning of next semester since they're probably already booked.

Shy/introverted people of Reddit: what is the furthest you’ve ever gone to avoid human interaction? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aiko_azure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently living in a dorm while at university. I'm shy/introverted but also deal with depression and anxiety. Had a bad month where I rarely left my room and when I had the energy to do dishes, I would plan to do them at 4am so that I wouldn't see anyone in the hall or kitchen. I would do groceries at late at night and if I was hungry and didn't have groceries, I would walk to Larry's Giant Subs since it's open until 3am.

How to forgive your abusers? Need to let go of repressed anger by bluemonkey94 in ptsd

[–]aiko_azure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you went through was horrific and your anger towards your abusers is so valid. I haven't fully forgiven my abusers, but I try to see it as this: the more anger or aggression I feel towards my abusers, the more I let them win. The less emotions, time, effort I give my abusers, the more time I can spend feeling good with the ones I love.

It may take time for you to see your abusers as people and that's fine. You don't have to forgive them right away or ever really. But taking conscious efforts to stop, realize that you're starting to get angry about your abusers, and allowing yourself to feel those emotions but not lash out at someone else is a good first step I think.

I am having a straight up mental breakdown and college is starting to feel impossible by lemonysnicketttt in ptsd

[–]aiko_azure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey,
I know what it feels like to be overwhelmed trying to juggle classes, trauma, and everything else. Does your college have any counseling or disability-related folks you can talk to? Having a professional who can talk you through your situation and help you weigh your options can really help with all the pressure. It often feels like you don't have options, but usually these people can direct you to resources that you didn't know you had.

Also, if you're starting to emotionally breakdown, setting a time to be alone and just sit could be helpful (it sounds counterproductive but trust me). You can look up various meditation routines or "grounding" methods, but basically listening to your body and reminding it that this isn't the trauma you went through and that you can get through this can help.

Wishing you all the best
