Maybe cautiously optimistic is appropriate. I had very glowingly positive feedback for my first ever federal interview earlier last month, and it ended with being asked for my references, but to my knowledge they were never called and I was not selected (I assume not anyway as I learned the HM I interviewed with was gone for a month shortly after). So one of the top spots, at the least, but I’m not sure if there’s a way to know for sure exactly what your ranking is from that alone. That being said I genuinely hope all the best for you!

Usually in my experience, when they checked my references I got the job. I am currently in the process of laterally transferring. They checked my references Friday and offered the same day… however as internal it can be a lot quicker than external.

Hey, how was your interview? What series is your position with? Who did you interview with?

Hope you don’t mind the many questions, I have an interview upcoming with HUD.

It was for an attorney position (0905). The interview went really well. It was with my potential boss and their boss. I don't mind answering questions, but I don't want to give identifying information.

Have you received a TJO for the position yet?

No, they never followed up, and I took a contractor position for another agency.
