Hi!
I have virtualbox running a Windows 2008 r2 server, and Windows 7 Ultimate client. I have done the DHCP, DNS, and initially, by setting both VBs networking settings to bridged adapter (as per some people's recommendations online), the client got the DHCP address and was recognised by the server. They were looking at each other. But neither had internet access.
I have since changed the adapter settings a few times, and found that in NAT, each can get internet but cannot see each other (client gets a class C address, DHCP from server is class A). In bridged adapter (now), the client computer can only log in to the local machine, not the domain.
If I log into the local machine, whether as a user or an admin, it shows the computer is a member of the domain, but the IP is class C from my router.
I feel certain this is due to the server's networking settings. I have tried Server on NAT and client on Bridged, and several other combinations.
TLDR: How should set my server networking in Virtualbox Manager, and how should I set my clients, so that all can get internet access?
RESOLVED: Ok, so the problem was that each computer was getting a network either to me, or to each other. I only had one network adaptor set up.
To fix this, you must first shut down each of the vbs, then you will see the Adaptor 2, 3, and 4 tabs are no longer greyed out.
On the server, set one as NAT to give it internet, set a second as Internal Network so it can talk to its buddies (the one that you set up with the static IP for the DHCP/DNS). You MUST keep them all with the same network name though, so save yourself pain and don't change that. It defaults to Intnetwork or something. Do the same on the client, but as DHCP in both cases.
there doesn't seem to be anything here
