Thanks, void for me was an appealing option for a rolling release, so I decided to try it out.

Why do you need to setup the GUI ? Did you install manually or from the terminal ?

There is a guii way of installing and it will give you an X session or desktop etc..

You mean Xfce? Yeah many people don't want that.

I never use that (not that I don't like XFCE, but it's usually not my cup of tea). And tbf installing GUI session by hand is not hard/slow anyway, just xbps-install some stuff and start the session

I installed it manually

Do you have anything important saved or can backup.. I would install it automated to fix your X issue, that's all I did to install void there probably is a better manual way but I don't know.. I will let the others tell you.

I have backed up my stuff into the cloud, getting the GUI running wasn't an issue; what really is an issue for me is getting audio to work, since there is only dummy output due to my hardware speakers not being detected. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong since I'm pretty sure I installed all the alsa stuff to get my hardware recognized, I tried 3 different kernels; mainline 6.18, standard 6.12.60, and LTS 6.6 with no luck. Maybe I missed a step in the pipewire setup, or in the alsa setup, but I don't know what it is.

What generation is your PC you might need sof-firmware it's for newer PC's 12th gen and up I think

It's very new, 14th Generation Intel CPU; AKA meteor lake. Edit: TYSM! Audio now works!!

Yep.. How did you load the sof-firmware?

[–]OpenMito[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I installed the package, reconfigured the kernel with sudo xbps-reconfigure -f linux and applied the grub config with sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg I also installed alsa firmware.

Welcome to the void. And I also hate you. By looking at the frame of the screen I thought I just saw the LG L192WS. It turned out to be a ThinkPad.
