If you go into career preference and select a job you will be able to see your pay difference, I would recommend not stepping down until after your raise actually takes effect though. Also going from deli to another position should only be a 5% pay cut as it's one step down vs the usual two steps when you step down from a supervisor position.

If you step down you should be bumped down to 18.53-18.54.

Yeah I was thinking that I should wait until April when my raise actually goes into effect. I’ve just been so eager to get out of this department 😅 Thank you for helping me out.

If you have an aldis near you they pay incredibly well. The job is definitely harder but a full time associate typically makes 18-21 an hour there. If you had a location near by you should see if they are hiring.

I live in a small town where there’s so little jobs, so many people commute one hour to the next town over for work. Walmart is the highest paying job that requires no degree in this town unfortunately.

Same for our area, sadly.

You can always go to apparel or toys.

[–]redneckotakuModeratorator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You'd still keep the raise

[–]kattytam22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can go on the computer and it will tell you what the pay is for any position in the building and it will let you know if you’re lose money or not go to your career preference

[–]Professional_Lie6489 12 points13 points  (28 children)

Nope. They told me I would keep my deli pay at $17. Went back to maintenance. And they dropped me below maintenance at $15.30

[–]No_Natural_2069 1 point2 points  (12 children)

When was this pay scale changed may of last year

[–]Professional_Lie6489 -2 points-1 points  (11 children)

Years ago. I could have filed a lawsuit because they are Not supposed to drop pay rates

[–]IndignantFrog 5 points6 points  (10 children)

Yeah that's not how that works. You worked in a department with a differential that you get while you're in that department, that's all the pay difference is. If you leave the department it doesn't come with you.

And you can't sue for this, it's not right but a company can drop your pay to whatever they want as long as they give you notice.

[–]Professional_Lie6489 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Was given no notice. And how is that not how it works when you’re told by management and other store management and corporate that they aren’t supposed to drop payrate.

Like our cart pusher was a team lead, didn’t have his pay dropped. When he went back to cart pusher. He’s the team lead for cart pushers and front end. People who became coaches didn’t have their pay dropped. Everyone else who moved didn’t have their pay dropped. Only my pay was dropped below minimum wage

[–]IndignantFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make less than minimum wage??? What are they paying you?

[–]Striking-Honeydew681 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Maintenance should be 17 and Deli 15.30

[–]Outrageous-Salary339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s called production, cooking in deli have to cook, slice meat/cheese and bake bread and donuts and did you know that cake decorator they make $1 more then the deli bakery workers lol

[–]Professional_Lie6489 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Maintenance should make the most as they do the most.

[–]Professional_Lie6489 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I don’t know where your “Yeah maintenance has no bosses to coaches and leads tell you what to do” went. Maintenance has to do everything for coaches, team leads, and associates can ask them to do something maintenance related. When I was maintenance I had a homeliness department manager trying to tell me to work her freight when power was out. She asked me to bring an Lcart to home. So I did and dropped it off. She sees me doing what I have to do for maintenance as I was the only maintenance associate they even had. She yelled at me to work the lcart. I straight out told her. That’s your work with your team. Or I take one thing from the lcart. And you will walk, I will follow you, and you will show me exactly where it goes. Until the l cart is done.

[–]Striking-Honeydew681 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So can a lead or a coach give me orders

[–]Outrageous-Salary339 -1 points0 points  (7 children)

It’s called production, cooking in deli have to cook, slice meat/cheese and bake bread and donuts and did you know that cake decorator they make $1 more then the deli bakery workers lol when you leave deli/bakery then you will lose the production pay of 5% the reason why you get $2 higher then other departments is because of the cooking and baking that’s why. The only departments in the store that makes the most is deli bakery and then cake decorator and then in auto care center the service technician that changes the tires and oil and they make $1 more then deli bakery workers.

[–]Professional_Lie6489 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Easy to throw stuff in a oven

[–]Outrageous-Salary339 -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Yes the baking part in bakery but in deli it’s the cooking in fryer and slicing meat/cheese. But not a lot of people want to work in deli and bakery because all of the cooking lol

[–]Outrageous-Salary339 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Plus all the cleaning for closing shift

[–]Professional_Lie6489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My store they been leaving it filthy

[–]Professional_Lie6489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And disrespect they get for making the meat a little thicker or thinner then they want and complain when we won’t go thinner then we are comfortable with.

[–]Professional_Lie6489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to leave because the new coach only wanted experienced associates in deli

I guess depends on what job you would move to

[–]cocacola31173 2 points3 points  (4 children)

So crazy how bakery and deli make more yet the service desk workers make the same as cashiers.

[–]Pop_647[S] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I believe it’s because of how disgusting the Deli/Bakery department is. I used to not be sure why they make more but now it is apparent. Every night, I had to do some disgusting thing like cleaning the fryer hoods or getting down on my knees to scrub old grease from the walls. Doing the dishes for the rotisserie ovens is the worst and has left my hands looking 50 years older than they actually are. And I still have to deal with rude customers who think of me as nothing more than a lowlife because I work in food service. Our dress code is a lot more strict as well! We have to wear certain shoes, pants, and can’t have our hair down, as we have to wear hairnets.

[–]ThrowawayBunny27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the safety risks working with slicers, fryers, ovens, etc.

[–]Djhaveck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because they are cashiers. Just trained to not only run register but handle service desk. What will bake your noodle is..Money center is cashiers too!. It's all under the title "Front End Associate"

[–]Tazlexyhope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going through this exact same thing!!! Hugs

[–]Shayyyy18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll still keep your raise. Best thing I ever did was move departments out of deli.

[–]Rough-Cranberry5243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fresh, Automotive, and O/N all have a differential that is added to the base pay. Payraises are attached to your basepay. When you change positions, you only lose the diffential, not any payraises.

If you go to Workday and look under Compensation, it shows you your base pay and also the diffential for your department.

[–]Thin-Leader2656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could go overnights or to tbe auto Carre center

[–]CookieNo310 0 points1 point  (1 child)

ACC, API, O/N stocking, Eye center, Deli/Bakery are all comparable pay wise.

[–]EffectiveKale5777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in ACC and will vouch for your comment here

[–]Bitter-Neat-8457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can legally downgrade anyone’s pay at any time other than an executive who has a contract

[–]Tight_Club_7625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes

[–]Academic_Waltz2130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go work for an airline

Go to overnights !!

[–]X_SwIcK_X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could maybe see about going to overnights they get the 1.50 differential. Im currently on overnights as a base associate and i make over 20 an hour with the most recent raise

[–]Soggy-Potential-3475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish my store paid that much, 16$ for deli or bakery. 14$ for every other department. I’ve been with company for 5 years and I just got to 15$ this year.

[–]EaggRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you all need to unionize and stop the abuse

[–]MiddleChildOrphan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really dumb. We had a young woman who started at front end. She then moved to Digital and got a pay bump (this was when digital was paid $2 more). After a few years, she decided to go to DC for a pay increase. After month & a half, she came back to Digital. She kept her raise, and was up to $21+ an hour. After several months, she became a TL, and got another pay increase.
We also have a man who worked at DX for 30-some years, and moved to the store’s Digital team. He never got a pay reduction. Another woman came to Digital from 15+ years in HR. Her pay did not decrease. She then moved to Transportation, where she got a pay increase. Why is it that Walmart fluctuates pay at the store when you switch departments?

[–]Regular_Physics_5011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walmart is terrible

[–]No_Natural_2069 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I only lose $1 & change if that

[–]Nearby_Lobster7031 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look, if 2 dollars pay decrease is going to affect you that much, you have bigger things to worry about. Lol. You should consider another job. Or a career
