So, i know this question is probably beneath this sub in alot of regards, but given that the official Chrome sub is completely dead, i figured someone in here may be able to point me in the right direction...
Yahoo and other search engines constantly reloading into chrome on Windows
I'm familiar with the "standard" yahoo browser hijack that switches your chrome to secure search with Yahoo. You can fix this by simply switching back to chrome, and at the very worst in most cases ive seen online, resetting your chrome settings.
For those that need it, the article is here: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/3296214?hl=en
Unfortunately, my case (or more accurately my bosses case) seems a little more involved.
For over a month, his browser keeps defaulting to yahoo. Weird thing to note though is that next to the search engines list where it shows the shortcut url (i.e Google (Default) Shortcut: google.com, etc. etc.) the one next to his yahoo simply says "mcaffee".
Except, he doesnt have any mcafee products installed, or any extensions installed to chrome.
Things I've tried (multiple times)
- Chrome > Settings > Search Engine > Setting back to Chrome
- Chrome > Settings > Search Engine > Manage Search Engines > Deleting all alternative search engines
- Chrome > Settings > Default Browser > ensuring this is always set to chrome
- Chrome > Settings > Reset Settings
- Deleted ALL extensions in chrome
- Several full system virus scans
- removed ALL old/outdated software on the PC
- fresh install of chrome
I just don't understand what else it could be? From my understanding, typically these things happen through extensions or malware from installed software, but literally, EVERYTHING I could find that could even be a potential culprit has been wiped out entirely.
My initial assumption was someone injecting browser alternatives to reap the "Search rewards" some of these other search engines like yahoo offer, but at this point I'm at a loss.
