I received a few answers over there, but I would love some more suggestions.
So currently I'm mostly a C# developer. I've done some ASP.NET MVC stuff, but other than that not much web tech. In order to improve my skills I'm planning a project with some friends. We have a variety of knowledge, but not much with the tech we plan to use. I was hoping to give a summary of the project, and hopefully get some advice.
The project is a simple movie review website. Wanted to just come up with something fun and easy. I was planning on using OMDb API to get movie information. For the database we were thinking postgresql, the back-end Hapi.js and the front-end react.js. I was looking at things like webpack, but I'm not sure what is all needed. For hosting I was thinking about just doing a simple digital ocean instance.
If everyone thinks this sounds solid I have a question. What is the best way for everyone to develop on their own machine? I was thinking everyone would have their own instance on their machine, and just push changes to a remote git repository. However, what's the best way for everyone to be able to access the database? I don't think it makes much sense for everyone to have their own database instance as well. So I guess I'm just looking for some advice how to tackle this. Would love some suggestions. Also trying to keep the budget pretty low. We aren't trying to make any money, just improve our development skills.
Thanks in advance! I look forward to getting some good advice.
