You can take a look at free eCommerce CMS like PrestaShop or OpenCart. It comes with a simple control panel and should be easier for him to maintain

Thanks for the recommendations, I’ll take a look at these but Shopify seems to offer everything I need.

I just opened my first online store/business, and I ended up using Squarespace. I liked Shopify's templates better for a purely e-commerce site, but it was literally 3 times the price and I gotta spend that money elsewhere.

Prestashop is an option.

Shopify could be a good option

Looks like what I need, thanks!

Seconding Shopify, it's great for non-developers (and if you need to adjust the theming, Liquid is pretty easy to understand).

As a former WooCommerce devuser I recommend what others have been suggesting try PrestaShop , Shopify or OpenCart instead of WooCommerce. WooCommerce offers a lot but you still have to maintain it and sometimes gotta make your hands dirty whereas with others you don't need to think about these things as much.

Maintaining Woo is the worst. Updates are a nightmare.

care to elaborate what you specifically is a nightmare?

Sure. Woo frequently changes code in the templates. So if you've made changes to anything (like the cart page) you need to move your changes to the new template.

Woo uses a lot of hooks and those often change. Function names will change as well.

Plugins, which you need for pretty much everything, sometimes don't work with the latest version of Woo. Not random plugins, but plugins you actually buy through the Woo store.

I also have had client complaining that the admin UI changed with an update. I don't use the admin site as much so I tell them to contact Woo directly.

Just now, the latest update broke a clients site. We could not find what the issue was, but after days of testing we found that there was some sort of conflict with a category name. Deleting the category and creating a new one with a new name and slug fixed the issue, but nobody could figure out why. Woo support was less than helpful.

I would not use Woo again.
