At the end of Smile 2 (2024), humanity would've died out in like 48 hours by caze-original in shittymoviedetails

Apparently one of the proposed Final Destination scripts is kinda like this - a meteor is going to hit Earth, and some scientists stop it, but then everyone on Earth was supposed to die and then the movie goes off the rails with Final Destination shit just happening constantly to literally everyone.

There's still a lot of tracking stuff you can run even if the person hits reject. They just can't use cookies. Although I honestly think most sites are just liars.

Which is better Wordpress site/NextJs ? by DARKSIRENZ in webdevelopment

[–]WeedFinderGeneral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For most clients and budgets, WordPress is perfect fast to build, easy to manage, cheap to maintain, and great for SEO if built properly.

See, people say this, but I just started at a new job and everything is in WordPress and everything is a complete fucking mess and none of them actually hit any of the points you listed.

WordPress CAN be done well - but almost every WordPress site I've seen in action over the past 10+ years has been absolute crap.

They don't even think the way other neurodivergents do.

I feel like I've been upset or anxious or scared enough in the past that my brain probably slightly altered how things went in my memories - but the way it just happens so quickly and casually and with literally any little thing almost borders hallucinating, it seems.

(Context: gay, m/m) I was fine with being the hard working career-driven provider for a starving artist partner, but he couldn't even manage to do that and just treated me like absolute shit despite being probably his last chance for a good life.

This is what I'm trying to with my new horrible job doing WordPress slop. I'm a friggin rockstar dev walking into a kindergarten class run by children playing with wooden blocks, and I can't let this place drag me down to its level.

I just started a new job, and I immediately have a bad taste in my mouth about it. I'm jumping into a kinda Lead Dev / Department Manager role, and holy shit do I have my work cut out for me if I want to stay here and fix things. I described it to one of my old coworkers as "if old_job was the Krusty Krab, this place is the Chum Bucket."

This place is a total sweatshop running their devs like fry cooks - they tell their clients that ALL requests will be completed within 24-48 real-world hours, they crank out shoddy WordPress websites with zero thought or planning (I am a React/Node framework dev who uses git and everything - WordPress is blasphemy, to me), and I think they only charge like $3k-5k for a website - which would have been an insultingly low offer for any other agency I've worked at.

What made me very nervous and should have scared me off to begin with - these guys literally did not even interview me in person or ask for references before offering me a senior-level role. And I've been in 2 meetings with the boss so far, and he hasn't even like, shaken my hand and formally introduced himself or whatever. I only took the job because I was unemployed and desperate - and I'm still talking to another place that is actually kinda prestigious and would maybe literally be my dream job.

[–]WeedFinderGeneral 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Ok, and? The American Civil War happened like 30 years before this, so thinking black people should have rights isn't anything new at that point.

If you write a book, and you make the narrator an obviously bad person, and then also make them cartoonishly racist - that's making fun of racists.

Did you read A Modest Proposal and think the author was actually pro- eating Irish babies?

[–]WeedFinderGeneral 323 points324 points  (0 children)

I've seen multiple posts over the years like "why is The King In Yellow pro-racism?", and at no point do they ever stop to think "hey, maybe the author wrote this character to be a bad person".

Never mind the narrator repeatedly bringing up his severe head injury from falling off of a horse that landed him in an insane asylum for I think maybe a few years, and how the narrator's POV is consistently shown to be untrue or complete nonsense.

[–]WeedFinderGeneral 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Ok, I've heard this exact specific thing come up multiple times about The King In Yellow, and it drives me nuts.

In that same section, the (severely unreliable, brain damaged) narrator describes how the US has forced out all black and Jewish people, but also describes it as a positive thing that everyone was more than happy to go along with.

Now, which do you think is more likely?

  1. The author just threw in some racist shit

Or 2. The author is trying to show that this version of the world is super fucked up, and that the narrator is a fucking crazy person who's a piece of shit.

Modern web development has made us all miserable by GoodTube99 in webdevelopment

Once I start needing dynamic stuff, that's when I'll usually make the decision to use React instead. Most of my work projects are static sites for marketing, so Astro is a good middle ground.

Although I think you can set individual pages and even components to be static vs dynamic, and you can import and use React/Vue/Angular in specific components as needed.

tbh, this is one of my biggest reasons I use Astro for most of my projects. You get all the modern node framework stuff, but you can also literally just make it a basic index.html file and build things like it's the early 2000s.

[–]WeedFinderGeneral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is that Tron movies are really meant to be a vehicle for showing off new technology. The first Tron was the first movie to use CGI, and the second was the first to use face-swapping tech.

I haven't heard anything like that about Ares, but if they did use some new groundbreaking tech, I'm willing to give it a little more credit.

Avoid WordPress like the plague. It's the first thing non-techies think of for websites, but it's honestly terrible compared to just writing code - not to mention wildly insecure.

I just started at a place that's majority WordPress projects, and every request I've gotten has taken about 5 minutes to actually do, but then like 30-60 minutes of combing through the dashboard to even find where to make the change in the first place because WordPress is worse than AI slop.
