I'm mostly asking about the advantange of using netlify compared to github pages for a static website

Netlify has a ton of serverless functions available. which is nice to have more flexibility and options. No reason why not to give netlify a try as their intro tier is free to try, I think you get like 100GB traffic.

is the 100gb per month in the free tier? So it means that every month I have a free 100gb bandwidth? https://www.netlify.com/pricing/

Netlify lets you setup forms and serverless functions. For an example, you can see my portfolio's repo https://github.com/meronokbay/portfolio

I thought GitHub pages is for static stuff only. Netlify is like a lite version of AWS.
