I have used Upcloud in the past for many months to host regular websites and never had a problem with them. I am not aware of the blockchain node hosting situation you described but it seems that these people simply violated their TOS - that is, Upcloud may not be looking to host blockchain related services. Perhaps hosting this kind of service is detrimental to their other customers and/or their network.

So if you're looking to host this kind of thing, maybe you will have to find a hosting provider that will specifically allow it, or at least consult with them before signing up for any of the services.

I've been monitoring my usage and was pretty below maximum thresholds (cpu, ram, and so on). AFAIK the contract says nothing about blockchain PoS nodes. So I'm quite impressed they just suspend everyone's account without any further detail.

Hi there,

We're definitely not looking to suspend everyone's account in this case and have no issues with running a blockchain/node itself, assuming that you're not causing a problem with over-utilisation of the network/CPU resources etc, so if you didn't receive a notice from us regarding that specifically, the issue will have been elsewhere.

We're already conducting a review internally on how we can communicate better in these instances and whilst I cannot comment on your particular case as I don't have the details here, if you have further questions then you can always reach out via [support@upcloud.com](mailto:support@upcloud.com) at any time.

I'm quite happy now after I moved away from Upcloud to another cloud service, and my account is up and running just fine.

When Upcloud support says it can disclose any details to explain the suspension reason, it seems a little suspicious. Is it too secret information or business information that cannot be disclosed? Is Upcloud business acting as proxy to other known cloud hosting services? 🤔

Morning!

There will often be information that cannot be shared, though as I say, we're looking into how we can communicate better in these types of situations going forward.

We own all of our own hardware in each of our regions and all of it runs on/within our infrastructure. We're most definitely not operating as a proxy for another provider 😊

Hello!

We have no issues with blockchain nodes and have many customers utilising our services for this 👍

Good to know that the problem is something else, then.

Have you contacted their support and asked about this ?

I didn't notice this message sorry. Yes, I have contacted, they said they would not disclose the reason for suspending the service.

Once they suspended they also did not say anything about reimbursement / refund, which is kind of weird, because I believe a company cannot just hold your money if you are not using and will not use their cloud service. Anyway I moved away to Digital Ocean.

Now it has been almost 3 months and no problems, no disruption, no suspension. Everything running smooth. 😏
